Nintendo have really fucked up with these. I was hoping to get them all. So far all is well. But I've had my shulk pre order cancelled. I refuse to pay a scalper and I refuse to buy a card. May be time to sell them all soon. Can't be arsed with their utter negligence to their consumers who want to give them money for them, and are being completely ignored. If any of my latest wave Amiibos are cancelled in completely done with them. I'll use the money to buy the UCS Tie Fighter! :) Reply -2

I'm sorry but Bethesda are dicks when it comes to things like this.
They tried taking down Mojang's scrolls and now this has lost to them.
I've never even heard of this game before this article but knew 100% it had nothing to do with their game series.
I mean Frozen (2010) didn't take Frozen (2013) to court did they?
Fallout is a word, you cannot allow companies to control words. This court ruling is pathetic!

@Sercd That's currently my plan. I've never been excited by this game but never put off it either, once it's £25-£30 I'll probably bite and buy it. :) Reply +1
  • Ashby678 16/02/2015

@Pro_Olaf Absolutely not. It's a prime example of a game justifying its price tag though. If you're going to set the Standard at £40-50 for an RRP then a game that is a corridor shooter without multi-player just may not justify their price tag.

Please also note I haven't called out any game for not being worth a £40+ game, I merely stated that some developers knowledge their game may not justify that price tag so they don't charge it.

@Carpetfluff i agree and disagree with you. People's mindset does need to change. And so does the developers, not every game is worth £40. There are many great games that released at the lower price point that have been great. Telltale games about 10 hours and cost £20. Ground Zeroes was £20 and there's a good 10 hours of content if all played through. Nintendo are releasing games at £30 because they don't feel they justify the full £40-50 price tag (Mario Party and Toad: Treasure Tracker)

I'm of the view that a game at £30 will sell better than a game at £40. I feel you'd sell more copies. More copies sold means more people recommending your game if it's good. More copies bought mean more people buying dlc if that's a route you're taking as a developer.

There's no reason games can't be short. But their price needs to reflect that. About £30 for a 6 hour game would be about right. Reply +63

@null it's a make your own mind up. The Essential, recommend and avoid are exactly that, ones without a stamp are games they don't think are bad, but maybe not worth picking up at its current price.

A review after all is there to help guide you on your decision to buy a game. This one they simply don't recommend you buy it, but they are not saying avoid it. So to me that means a good game but not one is be going out to buy now.

@null I agree, There seems to be no middle ground between Recommend and avoid. There are games I've played that I have enjoyed but would not recommend.

The idea of this review system is really good, but I personally feel it needs ironing out a little bit.

    Personally I'd have:
    Platinum: Essential
    Gold: Recommend
    Silver: Good
    Bronze: Bad
    Red Sign: Avoid

Like I've previously said, there are good games I wouldn't recommend, and adding to that there are bad games that you shouldn't warn people off. A three tier system just doesn't feel broad enough to me.

  • Ashby678 03/11/2014

@dogmanstaruk Just accept that it's bad coding. PC are updated constantly with new drivers and windows updates, it's rare anything goes wrong (bad ports aside).
The fact it was running before proves nothing. The fact it can't survive a console update when they will more than likely have had an early build of it is laughable.

  • Ashby678 02/11/2014

@dogmanstaruk I didn't say there weren't issues with it. There are, I too can't use stand by mode. I'm saying that it's the only game that has become "incompatible" with the playstation. And there can only be one reason for that. And that is bad coding on the side of the game developer. Reply +1
  • Ashby678 01/11/2014

@DwarfyP It is backwards compatible. FIFA, Destiny, Second Son, Shadow of Mordor and every other PS4 game I own still works. This Alpha doesn't. But sure, lets blame Sony and not the developer and their poor coding. Reply +1
  • Ashby678 01/11/2014

@Michelasso That's exactly my point. I think there are too many butt hurt fanboys on this thread. I was looking forward to playing this Alpha and it was going to be my deciding factor in buying the game. I'm not downloading it again for my PC as the pre download just made the prospect of the Alpha even better. I guess I'm just not meant to buy this game. Reply +1
  • Ashby678 01/11/2014

@dogmanstaruk Yes, and every other game also runs on my PS4 after the 2.0 update. How come they are unaffected by this but this is? Probably because they are coded correctly for the system they are released on. Imaging every iPhone game broke when hey update the OS, or PC game every time windows or graphics card updates. It's very poor indeed. There is no defending it. Does this mean the main game will break every time there's a firmware update? Reply +4

I built a PC with a very similar spec (same graphics card and processor) to this and it cost me £750. Build it yourself and save yourself some money if you're going to build a PC. I could have saved more money if I had used Ebay for some parts, but I got them all from once source for it to be hassle free. FPS I am getting on some of the games that I've played on their list is very similar and slightly better in some games. Reply 0

@Cimeas I hope someone takes on Apocalyptic. I agree there have been too many, but for me none have got it just right yet. Some have great aspects to them but none have had that complete feeling for me. One of the games I enjoyed the most as a whole experience was State of Decay.
But for me, no one has hit the nail on the head yet. I couldn't tell you what the perfect apocalyptic (survival) game for me would be, all I know is my thirst hasn't been quenched yet. Thirst for that perfect apocalyptic game I mean, not the genre, the genre is overused, just not yet mastered.

  • Ashby678 08/05/2014

Awesome. Always thought multiplayer would be fun on this. Slight increase to mob health and no change in world resource generation would be the way to go. Meaning combat doesn't get too easy with more of you and it's harder to not starve initially. What happens if your partner dies, would they be gone for good like single player or would they be able to just spawns fresh guy in and pick up their death dropped loot?
Either way, I'm hugely looking forward to this. Thanks again Klei! :)

I have bought a few early access games, this one tickled my fancy but never drew me in, and now I'm glad of that.

There should be something in the Terms and conditions that if the game is unable to be completed then the buyer should be entitled to part of their money back. It's called early access after all, even the developers use the term pre purchase.

You wouldn't buy a car part made and then be told it wont be finished without expecting your money back, the buyers and backers should be refunded at least partially.

There are many more series being milked a lot more than Zelda. While the formula doesn't change a lot of the mechanics do. Whether small or large ones. I love Zelda probably more than any other franchise but I haven't played them all. I've only played three of the handheld ones (Minish Cap, Link Between Worlds and Links Awakening), and four Console ones (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword). I loved every Minute of each one although Skyward Sword I've not got around to completing yet. Just because there are a lot of games in a series it doesn't mean it's being milked. To me a milked series is one that becomes annual. Assassins Creed, FIFA, CoD, basically any mainstream game. I mean GTA is a much newer franchise and has two less core game than Zelda. Don't get me wrong I love GTA too. I'm just saying a lot of releases in a large history doesn't mean you're milking it. In some cases it does, I just feel in this case it doesn't. That being said, I would welcome a change to formula to the Zelda franchise. I would love to see a truly dark story-line for Zelda, Demon Dark Souls-esque I think would fit it brilliantly if done correctly. Reply +4

For me personally it's not about getting the people who have played it to buy it again. It's about making it available for the people who didn't have the PS3 but have bought the PS4 and wanted to play this game.

I had never bothered with many of the Xbox free games (I think I've downloaded two so far).
I also never bothered with the was between PS+ and Gold. I say war, after recently buying a PS4 and Vita I can not understand how Sony manage to do it. I've just got Outlast (PS4) and for my Vita, Gravity Rush, Dynasty Warriors Next, Guakamelee, Modnation, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. For February for me that totals near £100 of games at their current digital price (even pre-owned would probably come close to £50). Had I a PS3 I'd have had Metro and Tomb Raider also. Sony are just incredible with their generosity. I've had PS+ for about 3 weeks and it's paid for itself already. Incredible Value!

  • GAME to take on CEX with new pre-owned focused stores

  • Ashby678 07/02/2014

@SpaceMonkey77 How is paying for a pre-order bad. If you can afford to part with the money not thinking you may not be able to nearer the time due to financial commitments you may have during that month (car Tax/ Mot/ Insurance/ Quarterly Bill month/ etc) it makes sense you can guarantee yourself a game you want paying for it in advance freeing up money in the month when the game is actually released. Reply -3
  • Ashby678 07/02/2014

Condition can vary a lot more from experience of buying at CeX. But they generally offer more money for a trade in than GAME do. I've just looked at my 3DS XL and games and there was about £20 difference in value. Their prices are also on par or cheaper than what GAME charge for their pre-owned stuff too (again from personal experience, I'm not saying this is factual)

    CeX (Cash/ Voucher)-----Game (Cash/ Voucher/ Online Trade in)
    3DS XL Red: £84/£101 ----- £67/£75/£75
    Mario Kart 7 £14/£20 ----- £9/£12/£15
    DW Super Star Kartz £5/£8 ----- £4.20/£5.50/£5.50

Not ones I have to trade in, These I was just curious

    Pokemon Y £17/£25 ----- £11.30/ £15/ £15
    Last Of Us £14/£18 ----- £8.40/£12/£12
    Xbox One £269/£311 ----- £252/£280/£280
    PS4 £285/£285 ----- £234/£260/£260

GAME are ripoff merchants, their trade in prices are ludicrous. I'm not going to look at selling value as everyone shops around for those anyway. And I generally use eBay to sell as you're more likely to get more on eBay than either GAME or CeX. But for value for trade in, I don't think GAME can come close to matching CeX!

Edit: Spacing of prices making it easier to read.

  • Ashby678 01/02/2014

@L0cky I completely agree. While there are game out for it I just can't justify the purchase. It has so much potential. I feel that the main reason it's not getting the push is the lack of games, and I don't mean the quantity it has, I mean the type.
It's clearly capable of playing the games that are released on consoles with lower textures. So why aren't the developers using this. I feel that if they released like for like games with save compatibility Sony could get this going to it's full potential. The remote play feature is a superb idea, but I myself would only do that over Wi-Fi using hotspots.
Back to my main point. Ports/ Handheld version. I'm not a guru when it comes to processors, graphical power and other technical terms, but I know a little, seemingly enough to get me by. Handhelds are generally forgotten by Developers and EA with FIFA prove this, as I'm sure others do but this one springs to mind due to the blatant re-texturing and roster update only.
If they started releasing games as I said at lower textures with maybe a feature or two missing here and there that makes it feel like exactly the same game to the average person, I see no reason why games like Dark/ Demon Souls, GTA 4(possibly 5), The Last of Us, couldn't be released for it. If PC's prove anything it's that lowering your setting that take most of the processing power, essentially things that make your game look the difference between good, great, and superb. Could be the difference between a lot of sales for Sony. Tone down your AA, lighting, particle and all the other fancy effects. I (again with my limited knowledge) could see these games running on this, and that would only help the sales. And I'd pick one up right now if I knew this was going to happen.
