"The most used, most important parts of the controller should be the focal point of the main area: which is why buttons on the right makes sense, and why analogue thumb stick opposite them makes more sense than having D-pad there."
Another good point: If the majority of games were to use a dual analogue + triggers setup as main controls, the right stick should probably switch places with the four face buttons now. Reply-2
@Specter-Assassin I honestly think the stripes are there to make the plastic scratches likely to be caused by the sliding top-loading mechanism less obvious.
Remember that this is the equivalent to the PS2 Super Slim, and that had a decidedly dodgy build quality. It's all about cheap now! Reply+2
There are two ways to participate. Either you pre-purchased the game or you registered for Beta with one million other guys during the 48 hours signup period and get lucky.
Since pre-purchase includes guaranteed access I don't think there will be that much space left for those who signed up for free. Reply+2
HD Remakes need a great team who respect the original material, and get it. My fear is that more and more of these are being farmed out to the lowest bidder, and that we haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg yet.
Or rather what's lurking beneath the surface. Totally second your opinion though, really depressing to see two of the greatest efforts in psychological horror video games in this sad state. Reply+6
@GiarcYekrub Not true, at least it isn't done deliberately: There is a slow loading glitch on PS3 that can cut off the first few seconds of cutscenes. Reply0
I think the only time you should radically downgrade a game score based on the quality of the of the conversion is when the quality breaks or significantly impairs the orginal game therefore ruining the experience.
I'm wondering whether the newly-released ICS update for the Galaxy S II can finally drive up the install base for 4.0 - please note that the above data is from before Samsung started rolling out the update. Reply+4

Unpredictable battery life? Doesn't make sense to me, sounds more like someone lost track of apps running in the background. Certainly not an Android problem.
HTC phones have been known for their sub-par battery life in the past though, probably due to their Sense UI skin. Reply+8
@Teemuslayer I know, bought it on day one back then :)
For me it really raises the question why they couldn't port it to PS3/360 in the same way - true to the original, keeping all the effects, just upping the resolution and maybe replacing some textures. Reply0
@jonchapman @ExplodingClown Also, SH3 picks up on SH1's storyline. SH2 may tell a different (but brilliant) story, but it's cut from the same cloth. Reply0
As far as I know no cutscene has been removed. There were reports of a shortened, "censored" Pyramid Head rape scene, but it turned out that the first few seconds of that scene were only missing because of a so-called slow loading glitch.
I'm not sure if this has already been addressed by a patch - hopefully Eurogamer will investigate these HD version issues carefully.
Edit: What is true though is that a lot of the graphical effects in cutscenes have not been recreated, for example the depth of field and other blurring effects seem to be missing from SH3 completely. Reply0
And because the video quality of the PS2 capture is so bad, compare with a much better capture of the PC version that also sports the DOF effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZk59fPyabU (see 11:44). Reply+1
The problem is not that the PS3 is unable to do them at all, it's just not very good at painting them quickly.
Check the Bayonetta faceoff, PS3 is at a clear disadvantage when massive amounts of alpha textures are being used.
And yes, SH2 and SH3 do use massive amounts of alpha textures to create that really thick fog. Where both PC versions would run just fine in indoor settings, the foggy Silent Hill outdoors always caused slowdowns on my 3870 back then. Reply+2
"the launch PS3 models [...] that came with the PS2 backwards compatibility could emulate the PS2 perfectly"
Not quite. These PS3 models included the original PS2 hardware so there was no need to emulate. The PS2 chips were subsequently removed from newer PS3 models to cut costs. Reply+18
Mr. Ito is probably right with his analysis - the PS3 just cannot provide the alpha texture fill rate needed to exactly mimic the PS2 game's look.
Still, they could have chosen other techniques to achieve a better result in the end, and by what is mentioned in other reports it's just a shoddy port. Such a shame! Reply+16
@Shakey_Jake33 Unfortunately SH3 on PC did not get the high-res texture treatment like SH2 did. Also, SH2 on PC has additional surround sound, but last time I checked there were some compatibility problems with current graphics drivers.
SH3 PC on the other hand runs fine - with low-res textures and stereo sound only. Reply+6
