Speaking from experience, I know that if you're getting paid to review a game/movie/product you reeeeally can't be bothered to get into, you'll give it an average mark and sit on the fence. Giving it 2/10 doesn't make sense unless Ed played it and thoroughly despised it. Reply0
I used to think the Halo 3 'biggest entertainment opening day' claim was bollocks too. But then it's what people are willing to pay for. It's about a balance between the quality of the product and the price it's sold for. You could release a game at £250 but just because it's more expensive than a regular game or a CD or a movie ticket, that doesn't mean it'd sell big numbers. Reply0
I've been recently introduced to Guitar Hero, and it's point blank the most fun I've ever had with a videogame. There are moments where you get so lost in following the fretboard and hitting the right notes that you actually become convinced you're playing beautiful music, not just pounding the hell out of a cheap plastic peripheral.
There's that, and there's the trippy visual effect you get when you've been playing for too long and look away.
Best game I've played all year, without a doubt. Reply0
I seem to remember reading a lot of rebuttals like this back when the original Xbox was crashing and burning in the land of the rising sun. It's what you would call 'damage control' - anything you can say to discredit a negative statement on your company/wares. When you've surveyed, what was it, 1000 people, how can you say the results mean nothing? The results speak for themselves.
It's fun watching MS tie themselves in knots trying to act like they give two shits about how the 360 does in Japan. Reply0
When will Konami stop fannying around with card games and get to work on a proper PSP Metal Gear? Just port Twin Snakes to it, I don't care, just git! Reply0
This is just the kind of thing I want from a PSP game - hard, fast and just the ticket to make the journey go faster. Ever since I sold my PS2, I've missed having the PS2 stalwarts around - Tony Hawk, Pro Evo, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy etc - so it'll be great to get reacquainted with them again.
Familiarity isn't such a bad thing y'know. I don't want to have to spend half my train journey figuring out how to play something, I just want to get stuck in straight away. Reply0
A good racing game is one of the first things I look for when buying a new console. PGR3 might just be the one to swing me towards the 360, because frankly, Gran Turismo bores the arse off me.
I eagerly await the day when you can career into the crowd and scatter them like skittles - can your next-gen console do that yet, Mr. Microsoft? Reply0
Everyone knows the fun you can have with massive widescreen TVs by sitting up close to them so you can see nothing else... try doing that with a PSP and you'll probably get cancer.
Also, widescreen TVs are a bit more tricky to get on the train.
I don't have one, and don't plan to get one for a while, but is anyone else petrified about taking theirs out on the train? I live in London and come from Essex; I might as well be bending over in front of a line of gays for the shafting I'd get whipping a PSP out in Stratford. Reply0
Interesting point on the 'two game' theory. Perhaps there's a very small market that overlaps, where people who normally played games on their PS2 will give it up for a PSP? A Game Boy Player-style peripheral for playing PSP games on the telly might help soften the blow.
Anyway, isn't it a little greedy to want to play PES5 all night on the PS2 and then play it on the way to work on your PSP, THEN get to play it at work as your job anyway? Huh? :) Reply0
I went to a fancy dress party with five other people there once. Not just five other people in costume, five other people full stop. We sat down and watched telly and ate Pringles. Reply0
Yeah, for all the uproar before San Andreas hit, you never heard of stuff like this being levelled at it. You get the feeling people won't bother accusing Rockstar of anything anymore 'cos it'll just slide off their backs and help shift more units.
Well, I doubt Jack Thompson will shut his hole anytime soon. Reply0
Someone please make F1 more interesting. Put guns on the front of the cars or something, drop clowns out of planes onto the track, pipe deafening heavy metal into the drivers' earpieces... ANYTHING that makes it more exciting. This game looks almost identical to the first one back in '96. Reply0
