  • Yogventures studio reveals troubled development, how Yogscast "lost faith" early on

  • 5ypher 22/07/2014

Sounds like a bunch of kids trying to run a business.

People need to be aware of this crap.
Don't pledge to something unless they have a consistent background of outputting similar products or can prove to a fact that they can provide the end product. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

  • NIS America Europe online store launches with "ridiculous prices"

  • 5ypher 02/07/2014

Honestly when they announced the EU store I was expecting to pay roughly what it all equaled out in the end importing from US. Why would I as a customer choose to waste more money on the same item I was getting cheaper before? Obviously that doesn't make sense.

I currently have an order for DR2: LE on the NIS America store. Which totals to $63.75 that is including shipping/handling. That is 37.00.
How much is the same item on the EU store? 59.99 plus 5.00 shipping. So 65.00 almost double. A fair price would be 39.99 with free shipping.

If not, what incentive do I have to purchase the same item at a much higher price point? None. NIS would just lose my custom as they now block non-US orders from their main site. So my money would now go into the hands of 3rd parties who are reselling those goods.

If they aren't going to do that. Then they must offer different collectors editions. That add to the value of the increased price. Not just repackaged U.S. ones.

  • Microsoft's confusing Xbox One cloud message shifts to dedicated servers

  • 5ypher 16/06/2014

Behold the power of dedicated servers!

MMO's have been doing this since time began. The game world running on a dedicated server and your input coming in packets to interact with that server. The servers game world reflecting that change and send you data to reflect that change.
This isn't breaking stuff lol. But there is a reason why it works in MMO's. Because well, they are always online!

And yes the closer you would be to the server the faster you see these updates happening. In my competitive gaming days of Unreal Tournament 99 whenever a clan match/duel was about to take place. We would have to do server discussions, to find the fairest servers to play on. Where both teams would have similar latency. Or we would do one map on their choice of server, one map on ours.
Obviously this type of stuff isn't a big deal if you aren't doing anything that requires extreme low latency.

People also worrying about no official music in the game. If they make the money, you can bet that will get Sony interested and in turn allow them to use the music library Sony Music has (which is gigantic).

After all its a Sony IP, so they would only be helping themselves in the long run.

  • 5ypher 06/05/2014

@TheChieftian Personal responsibility obviously should play a part. If you are a shit driver and have a history of crashing your car don't you expect to have higher car insurance costs? Or should we also do a one size fits all, so everybody is covered on the road regardless?

Of course we have should have a free baseline standard of healthcare. And we do. People act like in the U.S. if you get into a car crash and are on deaths door they wont operate until they see insurance and just let you die lol. Just doesn't work like that.

You would have to be insane to believe your family would rather you die than have the burden of debt. And there is usually a payment plan for people without insurance. Not just a lump sum, because they know if a person is bankrupt then they get nothing anyway.

What I'm trying to say is. Do you want the best health care possible. Or bog standard baseline. If you want the most cutting edge healthcare that has a higher life saving rate then you wont be getting that on a National Health Service. Has nothing to do with fascist/capitalist views, just purely rationale based on chances of survival.

@TheChieftian Ughhh.. didn't really want to get into a healthcare discussion on a gaming website to be honest. But here we go.

I was referring to people who keep mentioning free healthcare, when it should be called 'somebody else paying for my bog-standard healthcare'.

And what happens (as it does here in the UK) tax driven general health care leads exactly to that. General care. When you have specific conditions they may not even be treated under the NHS and if they are the standard is low and should be avoided.

You only have to look at the death rates for things like cancer in the UK compared to other countries to understand that.

A General health care also leads to each person being given a money figure on their life.

It's why the government starts getting involved in drink, drugs, fast food, exercise awareness etc. Because by allocating your own money for healthcare (remember government doesn't have any money it can only move it around) it can now tell you what to do. Because your personal actions may result in care needed down the line. So it gets into the business of preventive care. And down the rabbit hole we go.

It is never a system that aims to provide the best care possible. And if I did, god forbid contract a life-threatening disease of some kind. You think I'm going to wait around here in the UK with higher chances of dying? Or go abroad. Because who cares about money, when the alternative is death?

Just so people are aware (they seem oblivious to the fact). Nothing in this world is free. Someone, somewhere is always paying for it.

Hope she gets the care she needs and makes a speedy recovery.

Very shitty thing Turtle Rock did. But Josh Olin has the right to say whatever he wants. And Turtle Rock have the right to fire whomever they want.

Hope he can land on his feet and find a new position. And maybe just not broadcast anything on social networks (even though it was his personal one). Because obviously these companies are watching and with your livelihood on the line its just not worth it.

Wait till you are in control of your own future, then you can say whatever you want without fearing the lash so to say :p
