SKATE - Accolades Video

A bit of a self-indulgent clip for SKATE this one, basically summing up all of the US press accolades which it has garnered in recent reviews. Still, we did award it a 9 in our recent review, they should be proud.

Nailing a particularly, well, tricky trick is immensely satisfying. Cocking it up tends to be terrifically painful. Capturing that sense of spine jarring disaster when it all goes wrong is something EA have not ignored with SKATE...

From the lowly beginnings of hustling the local spots you have the chance of fulfilling the ultimate skating dreams: winning an X-games gold and finding yourself at the top of a 45 metre vert ramp in Danny Way's mega compound.

What better way to make use of your elite skating skills than by clattering through a sleepy suburb early on a Sunday morning, grinding the paint off everybody's nice railings and frightening the coffin dodgers? Bloody kids.

Assistant producer Chris Parry talks about how you make your way from zero to hero in EA's plank-rolling sim. Will you live the double cover star dream, or just loiter in the car park of the local Budgen's, looking surly and aggressive?

Home-made skate movies are almost as much a part of the sport as the flips and rails. SKATE's reel mode gives you the chance to create the ultimate trick-flick, presumably including a bonus section of painful testicular bails at the end.

More plank-riding hijinks from EA's feast of nose-grinding. We're not sure why the clip is called Agent Orange. They didn't put Agent Orange in Battlefield Vietnam, after all.

A look at how SKATE's control system - based around flicking the analogue sticks rather than button presses - will work in game. You'll see no 900-degree sack-taps here as EA take a step toward skating realism.

Two trailers for EA's 'new approach' to skate gaming, one showing some gameplay and the other explaining a few of the much-vaunted 'realistic controls'. There's even a sneaky little Hawksian comparison in there at the end in case the penny didn't drop.

This is only the second snippet of gameplay to seep from the sweaty pores of the SKATE monster, but the game already looks fairly polished. It's more about realism than mega-tricks so presumably we'll play once, hurt ourselves and never go near it again.

These arty trailers of the game's featured skaters are all well and good but the people are screaming for gameplay footage. Literally screaming. They're outside now, hammering on the doors and windows. Oh God, they've broken in! They're coming, aghhhhhh!

Our first impressions earlier this month of EA's 'realistic' hawk-contender SKATE whetted a few appetites so we've decided to grace you with this video. No gameplay as yet, but we're assured that this chap is quite the skater.

Inevitable comparisons aside, there's a paucity of skating games around considering its 'street' value. This new game from EA hopes to focus more on authenticity than 'that other series'. This video lets you decide for yourself if that's a good thing.
