Challenge mode is pretty self-explanatory, albeit with a hefty twist of Rare quirkiness. First up is a long-jump competition, a problem solved by building a vehicle which launches a barrel, complete with driver, from its chassis. Second is a timed obstacle course - turns out we're not very good at that.

Banjo takes a not-so-sedate drive around the single-player Showdown Town, utilising a couple of different vehicles. The second vehicle is upgraded, allowing you to drive up steep slopes to previously inaccessible areas. Once he's found a spot to park, the burly bear takes a quick tightrope walk to a lofty rooftop.
