I've been having a crap time trying to get HL2 and HL2:E1 to get to the start menu without :
Platform Error module Failed to Initialize
appearing before I download Episode 2 but I now have a work arround for any1 still having trouble.

In steam go to File->Settings

Select the "In Game" tab

untick "Enable Steam Community In Game"

Click OK

Run Game

Thanks buddy. I just rebuilt my system and was hoping that the new hardware wasn't causing the problem. You saved me a lot of pain.

No Bullshit, Man ... that's a great tip. Thank you.

Ever since getting my new Vista-based machine, I've been pulling my hair out trying to get HL2 games to run.

Thanks & props.

This thread is like an long term good karma generator for GY. :-)

On an unrelated note. Your username is impossible to pronounce.
It just turns into "Guy Kerouac" in my mind.

I've not read the thread but something tells me "Platform Error module Failed to Initialize" is not the title of Episode 3.

Wasn't this something to do with 64-bit HL2?

I just put -32bit in the launch options to get rid of it...
