I rung the xbox repair centre today after getting the ring of death on my launch 360. I'm also getting a free repair/replacement.
I asked them would i recieve MY 360 back and the (dutch) advisor said that if my 360 was repairable i would get mine back but failing that i would get a refurb from them. He said that it could take up to 15 working days. It'll be the longest 15 days of my life if it takes that long!!

I rang UPS on m onday and they picked it up on tuesday so they have only had it 4 days , but im worried they will give me someone elses refurbed console :S i want a new one at least as i got told it is a hardware problem which obviously isnt my fault, if not i will complain for a refund!

I know exactly what you mean. Why should we be fobbed off with someone elses borked machine just because our own have started to act up.

I'm hoping that I get my own 360 back (in perfect working order), if not I'm pretty sure I'll fight for a NEW machine or a refund.

Here's hoping Microsoft do the decent thing...

they will not.

Called them yesterday to confirm they have got my 360. They did. I told them I'm very pissed off with this second failure, and I said I want them to do:

1. Send me back a FULLY working machine. I don't want my broken 360 replaced with ANOTHER broken 360.
2. Give me back my ORIGINAL 360 so I can take it back to the shop I bought it from, and get a refund (I can't now becuase the serial number of the 360 I have no longer matches)
3. If they can't give me a machine that works, give me my money back and I'll buy their competitor's console, which by most accounts, isn't a buggy, porrly designed piece of shit.

They assured me categorically, that the replacement WILL work. When i pressed them to confirm that if it DID fail again, they would refund me they effectivly said they will NOT refund money under any circumstances (they said 3 attempts before - lying C**nts!) and basically said they had no problem with purpetually sending me back 360 after 360 after 360 until I get bored with trying to get one that works, or by some miracle, I get one that does actually last longer than the 3 months warranty you get on the replacement they send you.

Worst £280 I've spent in my life. I hope watchdog, or whatever body is responsible for bringing shoddy companys to touch in the UK sticks hot pokers up the assholes of the assholes who are behind this disgusting treatment of their customers.

That sounds pretty bad. I'm hoping that I don't get f***ked around.

The only problem with my 360 was a jamming disc tray, I assume that that's a pretty easy and fast repair. God, I probably could have done it myself but I was worried about voiding the warranty.

You'd think with all the bad press Microsoft have had over the reliability of the 360 that they'd be quick to resolve these issues with a new console. I know it would cost them but I bet their losing custom over it as well...

It was one of the factors that almost stopped me from getting one in the first place!

I got a 360 for my 18th (a year ago) and I didn't play it at all because the games were very crap and expensive.

It was turned on once, on my birthday and I downloaded Condemed and Quake or Doom something demos, got bored and honestly didn't play it until last week.

I was thinking of buying a PS£ but then I realised i'd better make use of my 360, so I bought GR:AW instead and the bloody disc tray got jammed, I have to push/pull the damn thing every time.

What the fuck.

By boyfriend just called up as 3 red lights and guy on phone said out of warranty, so would be 85 quid. Argued that manufacturer fault etc but would not budge and said pay 85 quid or don't get it fixed. He hung up on him! So what now is there somewhere that I can write to.

Hi, I also had the 3 red light and I was out of warranty, I searched the web and found a great thread about Xbox 360 problems, they had a new solution I have never tried before and it works great. I highly recommend it.

Here is the page for Xbox 360 Repair

Can't believe I missed this post before, absolutely superb stuff.

The guy from MS customer support I spoke to this morning had a good go: when I told him my 360 had experienced the 'ring of death' last night, he asked me how the corpse was doing this morning. Nice touch.

Ta. I didn't have much time this morning for an argument, so I haven't sorted anything out about it. I'm phoning back tomorrow to try and demand at least a half price repair since it's a launch day machine.

On a related note, MS now seem to be sending out Jasper replacements for some machines (it's not for all yet, and obviously not for the older HDMI less models).

No, I was lying. I said it to get people's hopes up.

I got to admit that I'm pretty pissed off with the whole experience. I'm not a hard-core gamer and have looked after my 360 (in fact it was very close to new). It's 2 years old but got the RROD so the repair centre sorted it out no problem. But I knew there was something wrong when I took the returned one out and there was a rattle like there was something loose inside and the disc drive groans everytime it opens, and it even noiser! I think I got someones old shitty machine instead of my old machine. And for this I get a months free Live - whoopdedoo for starters I'm a gold member (never again though) and whats that worth £3 but in reality costs them nothing. I will be kicking up a storm until this is sorted!

At least MS support didn't bullshit you for 3 months on end refusing to collect the console becuase there was 'no proof' that it was a faulty console.

Despite the fact that all brand new discs didn't work, the problem occured using multiple hard drives, said hard drives worked fine on other console.

It actually took me buying a new 360 and putting the old hard disc in the new console to persuade them to just collect the console for repair. Good fucking job too because it was 2 days away from going out of warranty for that point.

Good job for them, that is, because I'd have gone crazy if they'd tried to make me pay after all that shit.

The rattle is the orientation sensor Thunderbolt, all 360s have it.
