What you hear is wrong! Wrong, I tell ya!
I started it at the weekend and was very surprised - it's got a proper 60hz mode and everything. Bit disappointed that DDS1 didn't now - I got used to everyone looking a bit squashed, so now everyone looks a bit tall and thin. :-)
Framerate is noticably smoother, though. And Serph runs a bit faster so I should be done more quickly. ^_^

:-D
60 Hz is back again? Bloody hell! I wish they would be consistent at least.
If they hadn't done such a lack lustre PAL conversion of DDS 1, I would have supported PAL DDS 2 when it was released. I'll add it back onto the shopping list anyway.
*edit* Hopefully this bodes well for PAL Devil Summoner getting a 60 Hz switch too. :-)

Yeah, I was really surprised. I was expecting an almost identical conversion.
One really annoying thing is that they've swapped a couple of the controls around from DDS1 - specifically the circle and triangle buttons. I keep accidentally putting my team into 'auto-battle mode' while fighting. This is never, ever a good idea. :-(

Ghostlight didn't do that one, so it's up in the air again. I haven't picked that one up yet (too skint) but fingers crossed.

Its down to Atlus Japan, hopefully DDS 2 marks them turning over a new leaf. :-)
They haven't localised much stuff for Europe on the PS2:
Maken Shao - 50 Hz only. Borders
Lucifer's Call - 60 Hz option, buggy in 50 Hz.
DDS 1 - 50 Hz only. Okay(ish)
DDS 2 - 60 Hz / 50 Hz
Devil Summoner ???
If we follow that pattern maybe it indicates its time for another crappy conversion? ;-)

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzonoha vs the Soulless Army does 60Hz. Anyone remember a longer title than this, ever?

Its down to Atlus Japan So they actually do the conversion? I've usually glared ineffective daggers in the general direction of the local distributor when I land myself with an annoying version; suppose it's good to know whom to blame, at least.

Digital Devil Saga 2 rocks, rocks, rocks pretty hard. Does most things right, even the graphics (extreme rarity among the PS2 jRPGs), and that shooty vertical scroller was right up my alley. I'm exploring the last dungeon (or so I think) and it's epic.
I wouldn't say it's better that DDS1, but it's not worse either. DDS1 felt more cohesive, but DDS2 is still a game. You play the bloody thing, not just sit through the story running fool's errands, waiting for Godot or whoever else is supposed to arrive and push things forward. Thank goodness.

Yes this is an awesome game. I tend to prefer WRPGs to JRPGs, but this game was outstanding. Really showed some of the great things JRPGS can do better then WRPGs. The art design, the cyberpunk style setting, the mysterious plot, and the combat system really stood out for me in this. Well worth picking up if you can get hold of it. I found my mint condition copy in the bargin bin at my local Blockbuster!
