"Sports dropped from olympics - new one on way in"

9 year old girls across the country will be distraught that rounders has been dropped from the 2012 olympics.

Options to replace it: karate, roller skating, rugby sevens, golf or squash.

Karate? No idea. Would this be "how many bricks you can break with your head in one minute" stuff?

Roller skating? Depends if it's a 'sport' or just twatting round like figure skaters in front of judges.

Rugby sevens: Hmmm. Not sure.

Golf: Potential to be another tennis - loads of rich superstars turning up and not really giving a toss. If they include it let's hope it's either amateurs only or an under 23 competition (like footy).

Squash: my vote goes for this one. Can't believe it's not already an olympic sport.

having watched taekwando as an olympic sport I've got to say it's the dullest thing I've seen. So I'd hate to see Karate get in as well.

Probably Squash or Rugby Sevens would be good. Roller skating only goes in if it's in some kind of speedball variant.

Nope. And I can understand why, It's not really that good a spectator sport. It's a lot more fun to play squash than to watch it.

Maybe it's all of the above, a bit like decathlon.

How about a fight to death between the national animals of each country, organised on a knock out basis. The number of each animal (and weapons provided to those animals) would be increased according to size.

So - France v England: 3 cockerels (or 2 armed with flick knives) take on a Bulldog.

Canada v USA: A moose with a cricket bat versus four bald eagles.

Australia v Russia: A kangaroo with a koala bear in it's pouch armed with a flame thrower takes on a hungry bear.
