Was Fable 2 this year? Damn that was a massive disappointment.

I thought I would be disappointed by RE5, but I seemed to be able to differentiate it from the others and quite enjoyed it for what it was.

Tank controls still suck balls, though.

Fable 2 was excellent and one of the best games I've played all year (only really started on it during the Spring).

I only played a rented copy of RE5 but would have definitely made the list if I paid full price.

I'd definitely agree with everyone who's said Resident Evil 5. I absolutely adored RE4 and completed it but RE5 was just not what I was looking for. The forced co-op was just infuriating as I don't play games with other people and the best parts of RE4 were when you were alone. Unfortunately Capcom seems to have got the idea that they have to shoe-horn co-op into every game.

OFP 2
Bit unfair, as I never played past the 3rd mission. Or maybe that speaks for itself. Give me a bug-riddled, badly performing ArmA anytime that at least still is a ton of fun to play if the alternative is this.

Call of Juarez 2
More polished than the first one, and a few nice ideas, but it lost its charm and what made the first one something special. Not a terrible game, but ultimately it bored me before I finished it.

RE5. It was like a photocopy of RE4 but the machine was almost out of toner.

Was Lord of the Rings Conquest 2009? I think it was, just. I love Lord of the Rings, I love Battlefront, what could possibly go wrong? except making the classes a tad misbalance, the close combat a bit of a spam-athon and not quite managing to sell the illusion that it was a larger scale battle than it actually was.

Good call, yes that had promise but turned out to be utter shite.

RE5 was one of the brighter lights of the year I thought. I finished it without co-oping with anyone other than the completely AI controlled other character.

....I really enjoyed RE5
played it through twice infact (SP then co-op) :/

not a patch on RE4 mind

I was going to say MW2 SP but then I had no hopes for SP anyway... MP is ok but needs some tweaking. Same with RE5, was initially looking forward to it but the news of it being shit kind of dampened the blow.

For the rest, it was a pretty ok year, not many high profile games though.

RE5: Shockingly bad.

Fable 2: Was expecting so much more after reading the EG review but it was so poor.

Cant think of anything else thats been a huge let down.

Killzone 2.

Hate, hate, hate this game. The fact that I adored the first just makes it even more painful. Everything I liked about the first one they seem to have removed, and they added the worst FPS controls I've ever used.

Funny. The first one was absolute dogshit. The second was mere catshit in comparison.

Yeah there's some high flying exaggeration in here alright.

Surely Fable 2 and Fallout 3 were last year?

Personally, nothing as really disappointed me this year - the biggest disappointment I've suffered is a lack to time to play all these great games.

I'm loving the irony of grudgingly shelling out for MW2 amidst all the squeeeing fanboys and now finding myself absolutely loving the multiplayer more than I've done for a shooter since Counterstrike. I love the smell of crumbling hopes and dreams in the morning. (My K/D ratio has to be seen to be believed.... and not in a good way... :P)

The King Of Fighters XII was an extreme disappointment for me. They forgot to put any content at all in there! It was a shell of a game.

Well I liked Killzone 2 a lot more than I did the underwhelming Halo 3. Horses for courses though I guess.

What does Halo 3 have to do with it? Is it possible to have a thread not turn into a 360 vs PS3 thread? Lets find out.

Operation Flashpoint 2 – Thanks god for ArmA 2, as buggy as that game was and still is, it was far closer to what an Operation Flashpoint game should be than what Codemasters produced. Admittedly there where some great things about Opf2 such as the huge open environment and the command menu, but the missions where dull and drab and rarely did the game actually make use of any vehicles. Given how dismally they handled however, I think that might be a good thing.

Call of Juarez 2 – I was hoping for something more along the lines of the original, what I got was an on rails shooter through some occasionally nice looking, but ultimately bland levels, and my god, just how many gatling guns where their in the wild west? Practically every other level had you sat behind one.

Brutal Legend – I'm not sure it really belongs here as I did enjoy it, but towards the end felt as though I was playing simply so I could complete the thing and move on. Imaginative story and setting aside, the open world stuff was tedious and the RTS method of control for the big fights where cumbersome and annoying. I would actually like to a sequel but I'd hope that if one where produced some serious twinking to the game-play goes on before they even think of releasing it.

boabg, Darren actually has all the consoles and the super computer from Jurassic Park to play his PC games on! I doubt very much he gives a shit about 360vsPS3, he's just comparing two of the top shooters of the past few years!

Killzone 2 - Generic boring crap

Resident Evil 5 - Not as bad as I was suspecting but should have been a spin off, not a 'true' resi game.

Modern Warfare 2 - Good single player but too short, great special ops and pretty poor multiplayer. The maps are too intricate and are rife with campers.
