In the past week or so I have started and completed both Gears of War 2 and Batman Arkham Asylum. They are two of the best games I have ever played and a 100% quality gaming experience.

Now I need a new game for the 360 and I'd like your advice as I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to meet my now high expectations! I'll tell you why I loved the two aforementioned games and hopefully that will help you to help me:

1. Graphics/animation/atmosphere - perfect down to the minute details (they both use the Unreal Engine - is this why?)
2. Story/characters/dialogue - like a book you just can't put down
3. Difficulty - this is an important one for me. Excellent auto-save checkpoints are a must. I am too easily frustrated and also a little bit shit so likely to die lots.

Things I don't like generally:

1. Scary as hell shit e.g. Resi Evil or Dead Space
2. 'Real' shooters e.g. Call of Duty 4 and such

Thanks for your help. I know I don't ask much!

Batman Arkham Asylum is a superb game ive bought it again on ps3 after trading in my 360 version i rushed my 1st playthrough now im playing it on ps3 im taking my sweet time with it its between this and uncharted 2 for GOTY.

Recomended games for 360 well it will be MW2 but if you dont like FPS thats a shame as it looks good......fable 2 is worth a play.

Here are a few games i like and you might too (btw Batman is a great game I agree)
Some of these should be cheap since they are a bit old.

1: Mass effect!
2:Bioshock
3:Fallout 3 (not sure this is for you but its a great game)
4:Assasins creed 2 is out soon. Might be good.
5:Borderlands is pretty fun IN COOP, mind!
6:ODST is pretty good

Too bad you dont like Dead Space, I always recommend that :)

Hope you find something good. Also new splinter cell next year might be worth it when its out.

Just watched some footage of Mass Effect on YouTube, doesn't really look like my thing unfortunately.

It's looking like Gears 1 but I feel like I'm taking the easy way out!

I suppose another criteria due to limited gameplay time would be something that I can complete in 15-20 hours. Batman was pretty linear but I loved it. 200 hour+ RPGs are out of the question really. Also, no difficult puzzles. Make me feel special for solving simple stuff :P

Just read this customer review of Dark Athena on play.com. I think exemplifies the trouble with gamers today:

Dark Athena - This game is so dark you need to sit literally centimetres away from the screen to see anyhting, there is basically no colour in this game except for black, white and blue. Also this game isnt a shooter. In the 4 hours i played i had a gun for about 10 minutes, all the others guns are attatched to people. Its like a rubbish hitman game, avoid, buy something like left4dead or Resident Evil 5. (2.5/5)

Butcher Bay: This game is much better then Dark Athena (which you are actually buying) much more colourful and you get to use guns, still got bored of it though, too much like a stalth game for me (3/5)

C**t.

Would help if you said what games you already have?

For the 360 I'd recomend Halo3, Riddick, The Orange box, Mass Effect, Condemned, Fallout3, All are really cheap now between £5 - £15 & all you should have already played if you've owned a 360 for any amount of time.. So back to my first question really.

I currently own Gears 2, Batman: AA, PGR4, Fifa 09. I've had a 360 about a month.

Halo 3 - not sure
Orange Box - I remember playing a bit of half life on the PC back in the day and it goes in to my scared shitless category
Mass Effect - watched some footage and don't like the look of it really. Bit too 'in space' for my liking. Sorry!
Condemned - play the demo and actually shat myself. So hell no!

I think that leaves me with Riddick.

And now I will never find out!

Thanks for the advice. Can't do scary in games at all.

Edit: I new I'd been lucky finding 2 games in a row that I loved and was able to complete! I've peaked too early!

Half-Life 2 isn't scary at all though, + you get ep1, ep2, Portal & TF2.. & none of those are scary either... If you really want something not even remotely scary, try one of the Tomb Raider games? The last one - underworld was pretty good.

Also Resident Evil 5 is more like Gears of War than any of the other resident evils.. not scary at all.

Doesn't Bioshock have a horror element to it though?

Bioshock is in my scary category.

Lets look at all games I've ever completed, that I can remember:

Devil May Cry PS2
Metal Gear Solid PS1
Uncharted PS3
Gears 2
Batman AA

I think that could be it!

Fallout 3

edit: Riddick isn't even the slightest bit scary?! There's no aliens, just prison guards.

Fallout 3

Yeah, it would have been but I played about 40 hours on it when I had a PS3. Really enjoyed it but can't be arsed to go back.

I'm not trying to be difficult, honest! It's just that Gears and Batman especially have that something. I need to find it in the next game I get or I know I'm not going to enjoy it.

What about Lost Planet 2 - I liked the online co-op demo. Giant monsters - win!

In terms of being scary, there isn't much difference between Gears Of War - Batman - Chronicles Of Riddick - Bioshock. Those game aren't quite like Condemned and Dead Space where it uses the darkness and atmopshere and tries to give you a fright. I don't want to say what you should and shouldn't play but maybe try to be a bit more open minded and not put off too many games before you play just because it might be a bit scary.

GTA 4 + Episodes
Skate 2
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 & 2
Fallout 3/Oblivion
Fifa 10
Crackdown/Prototype
Left 4 Dead
Tiger Woods 10/ Fight Night 4
Forza 3
Tekken 6

@dunts - I understand where you are coming from but I have played tons of games and really tried with the likes of Silent Hill, Resi Evil etc but I finally learnt that I can't play them cause they scare the shit out of me. Now I know that I save a lot of money!

yeah, I'd second the recommendation of fable 2. also notice that you completed DMC on the ps2, I really enjoyed DMC4 but there is a bit of horror theme going on but no worse than DMC1.
Forza 3 and either of the PGRs if you like racers
