According to a few on Gamefaqs, HMV have despatched their pre-orders today, 1 week early. Are others likely to follow suit now they have broken the street date?

My Game pre-order has gone to processing but Game often process early and despatch on time.

Hoorah for street date breakers, may the law go easy on them :-)

Does anyone know the actual law in relation to this topic?

Someone posted earlier that they are only saying that so you don't cancel your order and go somewhere else.

It's on the innernet?
Then it must be true!

I'm not sure there is a law regarding release dates... unless you consider the contract the retailer would have with the publisher.

I don't think it is illegal, but the publishers can take action against shops and withdraw future stock. They are more likely to do this to indie stores though rather than big stores that make a lot of sales.

Why would anyone cancel and go elsewhere?

If the price goes down at a rival company.

Sadly, starting topics like this isnt illegal, but sharia law advocates death by stoning.

I'm guessing it's to do with the postal strikes, so that their customers receive it on time/early.

Activision would most likely stop supplying HMV with any future releases because they broke street date...

They could use the postal strikes as an excuse but it won't wash with Activision, especially if they were sent by courier.

It's already out and pirated last week so that particular horse has bolted, they'll let people play if their copies are legit. Well, when it's happened before MS have just said that if you bought it and it's shipped a bit early then good for you.

When it's "officially" launch time i presume?
Makes sense and most COD4 players seem addicted to reseting their stats anyway :)
... or have i misunderstood what my mate means when he talks about reseting?

If they can save a tenner or more over the pre-order price by taking advantage of supermarket loss-leader prices for the first weekend or the highly exploitable trade-in offers knocking about.

Or they could just have no faith in things sent by Royal Mail arriving this side of New Year...

I preordered gta4 from play and that was marked as despatched for 4 days (no strikes at that time). It was held until the day of release, thats when i received it. Just sayin.....
