Ant and Dec the bloody Wii Fit adverts they are driving me mad.

Nintendo has really sold out gaming.

Nintendo seem more interested in fleeecing 40-50 yr olds than producing anything of worth these days for the real gamers.

What a shame!

I don't mind the adverts, personally. Call me a softie but I quite like the fact that a whole family can get together and enjoy video games nowadays, as opposed to previous generations when gaming was less accessible to casual gamers.

And I think the whole 'Nintendo sold out gaming' argument is just bollocks, tbh. They were never obliged to cater solely to hardcore gamers.

The problem isn't them being accessible to the casuals, it's being inaccessible to their core customer base. I've owned every Nintendo console since the Snes and I sold my Wii because of the lack of games.

There is a different between 'catering solely to hardcore gamers' and making cheap, rushed, target market friendly guff that has no merits other than keeping granny happy for a few minutes before the bemusement over the modern world sets in once again.

Haha!

They don't care about you. The money is with the casuals. Fair play to them for targeting the demographic that will make them the most money.

True but tehy are ignoring them completely now.

Been watching TV with the Mrs and I've seen in tehpast 3 hrs: Ant and Dec and Cab drivers, Wii Fit, Create your own Clothing Design studio, Wii sports in a pub, Jamie Oliver NDS cooking book.

So where amongst all that are the real games they are creating? They have just sold out completely with one of the most agressive advertising campaigns I've ever seen!

Its not Xmas soon is it?

Are you sure it's not All-Star Family Fortunes that you've had it with, as opposed to Nintendo?

Way to state the obvious.

I wonder whether the casuals will buy games or will even buy the next console? Their sales are down in case you didn't notice.

I don't think being a hardcore gamer is anything to be proud of, is it?

If you're posting on a videogames forum, chances are you're a hardcore gamer. I don't see how pride is relevant.

While both the Wii and the DS are firmly aimed at a more mainstream audience than previous consoles, I'm not sure you can accuse the DS of not having enough 'proper' games. Between Metal Slug 7, Contra 4, 3 Castlevanias and a veritable hoard of strategy and RPGs, it's got stacks of good stuff AND minigame tat.

I find it surprising that anyone is still complaining about this as an issue. Gaming may be a hobby to you but Nintendo have to make money and they've realised that other markets have more potential for making that money.

Just because you think they owe you something doesn't make it true or relevant. They haven't stopped you from finding an alternative (of which the choice is greater now than it ever has been) and they've managed to chip away at some of the stigma surrounding gaming.

Also, being a hardcore fan of anything is nothing to be proud of nor ashamed of.

Is that a joke?? Wii Fit? Wii Music? Give the people what they want and all that, can't fault their marketing, but its not gaming.

Wii Sports and Resort too. And Brain Academy.

I'm not angry about this, it was somewhat inevitable after the demise of Sega and the relative failure of the GameCube. It's just disappointing not have a Zelda or Mario game for Christmas.

Am I allowed to be disappointed or is that complaining?

Exactly if Nintendo were advertising New Zelda and Mario games as well as all the other tat no one would be complaining.

Nintendo havent stopped creating hardcore games, they are making just as much as they have in the last couple generations. We are even getting 3 Mario platformers on the Wii; that hasnt happened since the Nes. Its decent 3rd party games, as usual, they are lacking in.
