So comes out next week, anyone picking this up? Or just going for modern warfare 2 on the HD consoles? I may pick it up for the online portion as long as treyarch dont botch it! Had an absolute blast with world at war!

I will be, find joypads useless now. Went back to Black and Cold Winter on the PS2, painful to play.

Been interesting reading all the behind-the-scenes stuff that has been going on around this game. Infinity Ward, reportedly adamantly against 'their' game being ported to the Wii, are apparently the ones putting pressure on Activision not to publicise the game, partly to avoid cannibalising sales of MW2 and also out of disdain for Treyarch, the people porting the game over, whom they hold in well-documented disdain for having effectively taken over the COD franchise with World At War and having also been in charge of several ports of previous games IW didn't want to happen (they supposedly didn't want CoD on consoles at all originally). One of the members of Treyarch's porting team has been chatting on NeoGAF about the problems they're facing, as well as revealing how little effort has been put into Activision's Wii games in the past (CoD3 had a two man team to port the game over!), and his recent revelation that Infinity Ward refused to allow Treyarch to put their logo in the Wii port has caused some appall from NeoGAF users. If Activision and IW hadn't been getting enough bad publicity over their arrogance regarding MW2, this certainly isn't helping. It looks like they're trying to alienate absolutely everyone!

Anyhow, I'll be picking this up. I'm that rarest of beasts, an old-school gamer who only owns a Wii, so didn't get to play the game when it first came out as my PC isn't exactly top of the line. Given the acclaim it received on its first run with the benefit of added IR aiming, I'm really looking forward to this and hoping we can get some multiplayer games going (I'm pretty terrible at FPS', so you should all be very keen to play me!). The YouTube videos (promptly pulled down by Activision, but constantly being resubmitted) have shown this to be a pretty good-looking game for a quick port, so I'm also happy to give something back to Treyarch for the effort and trouble they went through in getting the game here (even if they also did the god-awful Quantum of Solace port, but we'll let that one slide as the game was even pretty dire on the PC).

It's a definite demonstration of how far we've come in the current generation.

That's so 2007.

That actually looks not bad. As close as could be expected really. Though the gun constantly being squint irritates me vaguely - I realise it mirrors the way you're holding the Wiimote, but it's just one of those things :p

I'd probably have it, but not if it sticks at the kinds of prices WAW did.

Are there any official trailers up anywhere with better quality?

How many players is it? 2v2? The guy is running around for ages without coming across an enemy.

Does anyone know if you'll be able to have two people playing online using the same console? I'm guessing offline multiplayer is a no-go, as it tends to be with Wii at least nowadays.

Both of those would be a no, world at war had neither of those features. World at war had up to 4 vs 4 i think, its been months sinse i played it but hasnt modern warfare been increased to 5v5 or 6v6?

Yes, it's 5v5.

this looks impressive

I can't believe it will sell very well though because I'd imagine that most people who like games of this type have already bought another console and will already have MW and MW2.

This is pretty unexceptional stuff so far, and not for any of the usual Wii-related issues (but for the record: graphics are OK, but hardly exceptional. About Conduit level, way below Metroid Prime 3. Framerate is surprisingly solid considering the amount of action on-screen, but does dip occasionally. Wii-remote aiming is mercifully lag-free after Treyarch's disasterous last effort, 'Quantum of Solace').

I'm admittedly not far into the game ('Death From Above' currently - one of those irritating variety missions a la HL2 vehicle sections), but I've yet to see anything that elevates this much above the endless other CoD type games that have been around for years. It's packed with little annoyances: enemies don't react to individual gunshots and blend into the surroundings too much; strictly linear level progression that basically moves you from one gunfight to a samey successor; often hard to know what you're supposed to be doing and there's not much exploring to be done, unless you want to leave your squad behind and spend a few minutes trying to find them. The lock-on zoom and somewhat inaccurate 'from the hip' shooting also diminishes the excellence of IR aiming.

I don't hate what I've played of the game so far by any means (it's the best of the CoD-types, but that's a limited compliment), I'm just baffled as to how it can be so revered. Admittedly, I was similarly underwhelmed by BioShock and Half-Life 2, so maybe it's just the way modern FPS' in general are turning that riles me for some reason. And when my internet stabilises and I can have a few matches on multiplayer, I'm sure it'll be superb. But until then, I'm waiting to be impressed.

Call of duty's shooting mechanics are meant to mimmick real life in a way thats its never steady and ive read on forums already how sniping is a struggle in reflex. This was also very noticable online comparing world at war with the conduit and especially on the wii. Once youve accustomed to it though its fantastic and i wouldnt have it any other way, its easy enough to move an analog stick but to point and shoot with the wiimote is way more exciting and far more rewarding.

Hi,

So bought this, quite excited... Rushed home, which is really fucking white for some reason.. Got the family all around my sterile ikea advert of a home, networked up with a pub where noone drinks, and a uni student who should be getting pie-eyed... Anyway...

Booted teh thing up and can't work out how this is supposed to be making my brain grow, or my yoga technique..

it's not called 'Tunnel of Duty' for nothing. Sometimes the game instakills you if you try to leave what it considers the playing area.

I know, but on all other formats the tunnel looks good.

I picked this up as well, the custom control options are through the roof, even more than the conduits as you can map every single action to any button you want. It looks a little better than world at war. Ive jumped straight into online where theres at least twice as many playmodes than world at war which only had the DM and TDM variants.

I thought id be pumped for the online mode and i was, starting out getting my ass handed to me then slowly getting better and then i remembered the stupid kill streak system....it wasnt this bad in world at war, but in this it feels like an overkill. It makes the game just not as rewarding as it should be.

Killstreaks are annoying but after playing mw2 they seem less annoying.
Also the controls are fine I don't have any problems turning my dead zone box is small and without aim assist it's perfectly responsive and accurate.
The only problem I have is throwing grenades and throwing it in the right direction, I end up throwing it in the wrong direction and sometimes it bounces back off a wall that leads to my death.

Are the respawn points in this a joke? I mean respawning anywhere, in team battles shouldnt you all spawn from a similar position... its just shocking when compared to the conduits, i dont remember world at war being this bad either.

Respawning is fine, as you respawn near teammates. Occasionally this means you pop up in the midst of a gunfight, but in over seven hours of online play that's happened to me no more than five times. Don't know how it works in a free-for-all deathmatch as I haven't tried that yet (I'm not very good, so the teammates help).

Although the single player was a bit hit-and-miss, the online multiplayer is glorious. Wii remote aiming is just so perfect for FPS' and there's nary a hint of lag. My FC is 367851443577, hopefully if enough people get this (and you should, if only for the multiplayer - if you liked the other COD4s, you'll probably like the single player too if you're not a graph1x wh0r3) we can get some games going.

Unfortunately my connection seems to lag a little but no different to any other online fps game ive played on the wii. Put about 5-8 hours online as well, starting to warm up to it and i do agree that the respawn is better than i initially thought. Unlocked hardcore TDM and its as good as it always was! But unfortunately if you dont play this flat out your skills will get left behind, thats the nature of online FPS though. Still not as enjoyable as the conduit online for me, each to there own.

I would say the spawning is pretty bad it's a Call of duty game after all, they never fixed it in MW2 either. some of the maps are pretty small you end up spawning in front of behind the other team now and again.

My experience of CoD 4 onwards is strictly with 360 and CoD 2 on both PC and 360. If it's anything like CoD 4 it shouldn't be too bad, the "respawning anywhere" is generally quite good in that if the battle is flowing you'll respawn nearer to the rest of your team rather than one spot that can be camped right at the other end of the map. World at War was terrible on the respawning front as it consistently respawned you amongst the enemy, 4 and MW 2 only do it occasionally.
