I'm alittle concerned at security though it seems as though the "Waves" are centrally hosted

No, there is a long video of it on youTube. Google it and you will find.

I'm looking forward to it. I wonder if it will take off though. Needs to run off of Googles servers if I understand things correctly.

I agree with this guy even though he works for MS. What he is saying makes sense.

Still... Wave is jusr what I've been looking for several times.

I like the document collaboration thing for work purposes. I would just need to work for a company that would agree to that almighty shift away form vanilla email.

Not just on Google servers, you can install it on company server and have your own implementation of it that will still interact with others. You can even tap into it and create your own front end, either through a template mechanism or by coding your own. That video shows a terminal interface that works, V cool. It is a massively long vid but I would recommend watching it all.

@Flightrisker: He had ming the merciless, now he has ming the cool as hell ;)

I think its around 1hr 7mins that they cover the bit about running on different servers.

I'm no programmer but I watched the whole video and I'm left feeling rather inspired.

This looks utterly phenomenal!

And, er, it goes without saying that if anybody gets an invite that they'd like to pass on to someone who'd chew their arms off to get one (i.e. me) then I'll happily touch you on the bottom, or whatever your vice is.

What would be the benefit of that? I mean I understand the benefit of IM, and being able to see what a person is tying as they do it, but VOIP? I don't get it.

Its not supposed to be a replacement for voice communications. Its how vanilla e-mail would look if developed today...i.e. its for text/visual communications, not RT voice.

Btw, I too would love an invite if any of you good people had any ;) :)

It doesn't? Isn't that strange since gMail does? Was that even a question?

If someone here had gotten an invite and was able to invite 5 people. What would the point be of giving out invites to fellow EG-ers?
Using Wave only makes sense if some of the people you are in communication with regularly also use it, so that's your friends, family, ... people you know.
Not people you post on a internet forum with.

What's the benefit of including IM into email?

Until there's a convergence of internet communication tech, all these baby steps are pointless and this might be the most useless to date.

And you don't have to "get it", everyone's net use is different. I use things like skype a lot because I'm away from loved ones and my clients more than I like to be and phoning between the UK, US and Japan is expensive. Not everyone is chained to a 10 mile radius.

I want convergence, not yet another piece of useless shit.
