Enjoying the disc version of both stories, Gay Tony seems better so far though.
Did anyone else's game pause slightly when you shot someone off their bike in one of the first missions of Lost?
Very off-putting, i had other pauses when the police where called as well, it's not happened in Gay Tony yet.
There's no pause music or loading screen music in Lost either but it's there in Gay Tony :(
I must have a faulty disc( I have it installed) or Rockstar fucked up the disc version.

Can't find the official GTA IV thread so will put this here.
Just recently started the original GTA IV and so far it plays as a regular GTA - so not too bad though nothing new at the moment. However the story seems really poor. Some of the characters are really bizarre, Nico in particularly. He seems really calm and then randomly loses it cos Vlad is banging his cousin's GF? He's willing to get his hands really dirty for others who not only sit on their arses but are actually nobodies in the town - wiping out an entire club for Dwayne who is a total nothing. I'm having a real problem seeing his character. It's all over the place and I'm starting to have problems appreciating it. The other characters are pretty lame too.
Does it get any better?

Storywise I thought it was ok. It's good if you do some of the side missions to get a feel for his character. There are some great missions later on. It's worth continuing playing.
As for an official GTA IV thread, I think so many were created and locked that there isn't one any more. :)

I'll keep it up, just a little disappointed with the story. Past ones have been far more involving and "believable". So much so I've actually enjoyed the cut scenes. Hard to get a feel for the character in this though when there doesn't seem to be one. I'm fighting myself not to skip the cut scenes.

I found just the opposite. I loved the cut scenes including the early ones in the taxi rank with Mallory and Vlad. Nice snappy dialogue, good humour. What you have to remember about Nico is that he's pretty damaged goods with a lot of repressed anger and betrayal.
Have you seen the cut scene where Jacob is translating for Badman? Comedy gold.
Anyhoo, off topic.

He's damaged but it just doesn't make sense the way he behaves. He knew about Vlad fucking the girl yet doesn't give a shit until his cousin - who Nico thinks is a wimp - has a little sob about it. Roman even gets over it all pretty quickly. Yet Nico loses the plot in a really bizarre manner causing himself unnecessary aggro. Plus he's doing all these jobs for lame part-time crooks. He's taking out entire Mafia armies and cleansing bars for nobodies, people who should be working for HIM by that stage. The guy might be scarred by the "war", but he's not an idiot. Fuck Dwayne. If I'm killing everyone in the club while he's sitting at home whining about his ex, I should be in control of it. I don't even really know this Dwayne bloke very well.Only believable character (in terms of attitude and relationship) is Little Jacob.

I agree with FWB, I always though Nico was not a great character as he it just the typical do what he's told by a bunch of cunts and then have a moan about it later rather than trying to make his own life any better.

He's definitely got the will to act in his own sudden drive (look what he does with Vlad - even though his response is out of character it does exhibit a cold and driven nature) and it's not like he's an idiot. I get the impression he's supposed to be reasonably smart and calculated. His actions are anything but. Basically he seems a mess, and I don't mean in a good character way, but just in a "we've built this lovely city and we can't be bothered to think about his character" way.

I just felt he was too passive and as such the story was hurt because of the lack of a main story arc. You pretty much just spend the entire game doing what you're told and watching cutscenes with him having a big grumble about it.
This is why Vice City is the best of the lot, Tommy was always planning stuff and even when doing shit for other people it was to further his own empire. This is the very same reason I really like what I've sen of Gay Tony so far, because Luis is just looking out for his own shit and not just being a grunt.

Arhh see I was hoping that's not what this game would be all the way through. It starts off with a driven guy coming off the boat and with what seems like an attitude of "I'm here to make it big" and turns into a... well so far I'm not sure what he is doing aside from being a butt-munch. Shame cos there's so much you could do with an immigrant gangster... including trips back to the homeland, for example.
Agree with VC. enjoyed playing that guy. Also enjoyed being the guy in SA too. He had character too.

@Hunam: you spoke my brain! Vice City is the best in terms of a driven story that ties in with the player character, TLAD & BOGT are not far behind. As much as I enjoyed them, the others do trail significantly in that regard.

Well, every single character in GTA4 is trying to carve out their corner of LC, except him. Some people want to run the gun rings, others want to be mob bosses, others was to be business men, legitimate or otherwise and some just want to escape the 'life' Nico doesn't seem to want anything other than money and to look down his nose at everyone else.

I really didn’t enjoy GTA IV, the lead character was a bore (except when he was drunk and falling out of a bar, cause that was just funny!) the lack of save points drove me mad and the over hype got to me. I loved Vice City and San Andreas and wished GTA IV could have had a little more of them in it (The sense of freedom from SA and the story from VC)

Ah, the hallowed, gold-paved streets of Vice City. How sweet their rose tinted hues.
I tried to get back into VC after playing SA and I just couldn't get used to the old-old engine again. Shame because the game is so strong in other areas. The old right-stick-first-person-look was full of fail. And no, VCS didn't cut it, much as I did enjoy that too.
Now, where did I leave my 'splodey shotgun...

The "special someone" he's looking for is focused on more later in the game. To begin with, he has to establish himself and make the contacts he needs to find him.

Great game this :)
Free mode multiplayer was horrible last night though, there were two Scots guys with a tank and a Helicopter spawn killing everyone within seconds of spawning, I didn't even have the time to pause the game or bring up my phone to quit!
Hopefully it's not like that all the time.
Oh, and do you have to unlock other MUlti modes?
All I could do was DM, race or Free mode.

Has made me want to start GTA Iv and Tlad again...if only I had the time. Halo odst keeps giving me the eye and ACII will be here end of next week-ish.
Back to GTA, I might try and complete drug wars tonight and then on line.

First off - the playground is back \o/. Noose tank rampages ftw!
On completing the Party's Over mission where you're pinned down in the club, I got a call from Mori just as I was going out through the door to the street and the game cut him off. What was it about? Anything interesting or useful? There is/was no marker to go and see him so I'm guessing not.
It's just a comedy conversation where he tells you that his recent experience (i.e. getting punched in the nose by his brother) has changed him and he has moved in to a commune.
Of course, he has not quite entered in to the spirit of things and has taken the commune over and turned it in to a dictatorship.
I miss so many of those kind of convos (as well as the dialogue when ferrying people about in cars), and it really irritates me as I love the ones I've had a chance to hear. Not because of the game cutting them off though, but because there's still no sodding 'Voice Volume' option. The dialogue is far too bloody quiet, and I hate using subtitles in non-foreign language media as it just doesn't feel ' right', expecially in GTA.
Turn the music down, and all you hear is the engine and environmental noises which overpowers the voice. Turn the SFX up, and it makes the engine and environment louder and I STILL can't hear wtf is being said. I can't even figure out if the dialogue is even classed as 'music' or 'SFX', as I still can't hear it no matter what adjustments I make.
Videogame industry listen: First of all, hire some actual professionals who know how to sound mix (I have a sound engineering degree if you are interested...), and more importantly, ADD A FUCKING DIALOGUE VOLUME OPTION FFS!

I notice volume problems most in cut scenes. I have to turn those right up and then have to be like Clint Eastwood on the remote to avoid a blare of traffic and radio when the cut scene ends.
Other than that I have no beef with the production. Lazlow and the gang do a blinding job.
