That footage is pretty impressive - bar the grass texture, which I hope was a placeholder for actually modelling the grass. Not really any greater than stuff people already managed, though. In the age of Crysis, it'd look MASSIVELY dated.

DN3D also looked massively dated when it was released (around the same time as Q1). It doesn't matter that it lacks the technical stuff to compete, it matters that it just uses what it has and makes it fucking awesome.

Didnt think it looked quite that bad... Crysis may look good but still runs like shit if you want to run high res and any AA or AF.

The textures are pretty poor, natch, the models look dated, and the grass is like the HD version of DN3D's equivalent. This would all look great around the time of Doom 3, but we're WAY further on now. I kinda expect that's the sort of time ago we're talking about this footage being from.

It looks like they more or less had all advanced forms of PPFX off which makes this a bit of an unfair comparison.

It would of been a big let down anyhow no game can live up to 12 years of hype it would of been very average.

12 years of hype? More like 11 years of information blackouts and a few tiny bits of info sprinkled over the course. A lot of games have massive development cycles and get hyped to shit beyond anything we have ever seen with this.

Just watched the leaked video and tbh its very "meh!" looks dated even now.

Does anyone else get the feeling Xerx3s had shares in 3D Realms or something

It looks more like Legendary than Prey to me, that's hardly a compliment but I still think the video has a mindlessly fun air to it.

That's all I was expecting from the game really. A fun, extremely interactive yet simple shooter.

I can still understand why people are demanding more and laughing and poking fun at 3D Realms now it's all come crashing down though. At the end of the day they were involved in the longest running joke in the video games business. I can see why there's anger too, a waste of a 'classic' license, talent, money and playing with fans expectations and emotions.

I'm not enraged or anything, I'm just curious as to what they have after all this time. 12 years is a very long time to be working on just about any creative venture. I'd probably pay to see a documentary detailing what went down.

Schadenfreude, innit?

For years they've been tapping their nose, leading people on, while everybody wondered how the hell they were able to fund such a prolonged development.....and it turned out they couldn't. Serves the fuckers right. They dropped the ball on the one IP they had anybody gave a stuff about, and now it's game over.

Pity there wasn't anyone filming there, like there was when Imagine went down.

(The Money Programme IIRC)

Cock, I lost what I just wrote....

Aye, BBC crew doing a feature about the race for the computer games #1 spot of Xmas '84 (IIRC). Had Ocean playtesting their hope of Hunchback 2 (yes, I know) and Imagine trying to finish and sell Bandersnatch when the distributors didn't even like the idea of a game which would cost twice the price of anything else. Even had the camera crew in the Imagine offices when the bailiffs locked the staff out...

I've got a copy as an AVI somewhere but without knowing the exact title it's a pain in the arse trying to find it online!

Heh, it's even mentioned on the Bandersnatch Wiki page! :)

Oh dear, although I must confess to playing Hunchback an inordinate amount on my Electron.

Forgot all about Bandersnatch ..

I'll see if I can find it.

It's notable for its serious tone, unlike the edition of The Money Programme which covered the Xbox 360 launch by interviewing parents of five-year-olds and asking them if they'd buy their kids one! >:(
