Thanks Aretak.

5-1 is pretty straightforward, just be careful about dropping to your death from a walkway.

It all depends on your character build and equipment really.

4-1 or 2-2 or 1-2 I really, really hate 5-1, avoid it like the... *drumroll*

PLAGUE!

Cheers !

I'm a Royal and have tended to stick with magic for main attack, got to about level 30 but more or less brought all my stats up together.

4-1 is a bitch for non-melee characters. I wouldn't go anywhere near it without a decent upgraded shield as a magic user.

On the plus side, you'll really learn how to fight.

Helped someone through 2-1... it was pretty easy. Next time I go there on my game I will make sure I have a fat amount of arrows. The standard enemies are quite easy.

Questions about co-op and tendencies:

Has helping someone get through 2-1 whitened my tendency? Also a BP appeared and died randomly on that level, would that gain anything?
My plan is to suicide in the nexus and become a merc for hire!

Also if you summon someone to your world, does the boss appear to be killed again or would the phantom be a bit of a useless apendage if you're not on a boss run.

Must refer to guide about becoming a BP, sounds fun.

Nothing in the other player's world affects yours. Your WT won't be changed by helping as a blue phantom (although there are lots of glitches that can change WT whilst online anyway). Also, you'll no longer be able to see soul signs in an area you've already beaten. The boss has to be alive for you to summon blue phantoms.

Have you got the Purple Flame Shield yet valli? It's amongst the treasure the two dragons were nearby at 1-1. It does have one disadvantage it slows your roll considerably, very noticeable if you are used to lighter shields.

Otherwise the heater shield which you can just buy is actually a very good choice, light enough to roll quickly and it stands up pretty well when it comes to maintaining a guard.

Neither shield needs anything particularly rare to upgrade a few times either. Once you've got the Purple Flame shield upgraded a few times it stands up to most enemy attacks with no danger of your guard getting broken quickly.

The red-eye knights also drop them occaisionally. I have about three of them from farming grasses via the three red-eyes near the Penetrator archstone. Also, it will only slow your roll speed if its weight takes your total equip weight above 50% of it maximum. The PFS weighs a pretty awesome 8.0 units (compared to the Tower Shield for example, which has slightly better stats but weighs 30.0 units). My mage can use it and still roll as freely as with a small or medium shield.

The adjudicators shield. Upgrade it and you are looking at a full hp refill in under a minute.

Tendency things as from the Guide:

Revive Phantom player in Online Mode = +30%
Defeat Black Phantom = +30%

I should have -30% from dying but + 3 x 30% for demon defeats on Boletaria.

I hate 3-2 :-(

Nearly 8000 souls to repair all the damage to my armour and equipment from one of those little armour destroying buggers jumping out from the darkness.

Of course I've just died at the Maneater so I have zero souls, time to start cashing in Unknown Soldier's Souls, pity you can only use them one at a time, it will take about 40 to pay for everything.

AH. Just reading the Atlus forums. The US servers are getting hammered and can't cope with the demand, this is why I keep losing messages/select button/phantoms.

Yeah, it's fine to have equipped when things are quiet to restore health, but other than that it's a really, really crappy shield. It has worse damage reduction than the Buckler the Royal starts with -- 90/50/10 (percent of damage cut) for physical, magic and fire respectively. Plus it only has 50% guard break reduction, which dictates how much stamina you lose when hit whilst guarding. The Purple Flame Shield has 82% reduction fully upgraded (the Tower Shield has the most at 85%). And even worse the AS requires Colorless souls, of which there are only 10 possible to get per game.

If it says revive a phantom, it means reviving a visiting blue phantom with the Resurrection miracle. Helping as a BP in someone else's world doesn't get you anything in terms of WT. I wish it did, because I play as a BP a lot.

Ah but it's ood as long as you don't plan on being twatted too often! It's light enough to the point where I very rarely get hit with it and when I do it's strong enough to keep me sorted, and for what it lacks in up front guard it makes up for in restoring your hp anyway. I like it anyway. Tried the Purple Flame shield and Tower Knight shield but preferred this.

Probably the shortest and worst session of Demon's Souls for me ever!

Got to Maneater on my NG++, Killed one and then the other (who had half health) disappeared. During this, I took time to have a conversation with Valli and talk about netflix, before deciding to suicide.

On my return, the 1st maneater knocks me off the edge with his 2nd hit.

.....

I R ANGRYZ, I QUITZ GAME, I AM HEREZ.

I hate Maneater even more than 3-2.

The chickenshit wanker always flies off out of lock-on range, the best I've managed so far is knocking the first one down to about 10% before the second arrived. Of course when there are two of them suddenly Maneater is a bit more confrontational.

Nobody's read the guide then ? There's thon lovely glitch you can use:

When you reach the fog, don't enter it, but move to the left-hand side. You can shoot through it with a bow ! Take down the 1st before entering the fog, and always keep the brazier between yourself and the 2nd. Easy-peesy.

Going through 5-1 and 5-2 tonight, and gawd, are they depressing. Not as bad as knocking BP Ostrava off thon walkway though, and hence no free Rune Weapons. :(

My arrows only do 35 damage to Maneater. I only carry about a hundred normally, probably not enough. I think that method only applies to people with better bows and higher strength and dexterity stats.

Yep.

100 arrows wasted. He still had a bit of life in him and was extremely pissed off when I crossed the fog, I dodged his first attack but he just turned around and knocked me off the walkway.

I nearly beat them both with Demonbrandt, just four or five heavy hits is enough for each one.

Cheers fellas, purple shield sounds like my kind of item! Those two draggies are fertilizer by now, I'll go loot that place! :)

PS: Maneater wasn't hard, found it very important to release the lock after a few shots and wait for it to do its flying around while getting some distance.

Gawd, grinding for ores is depressing! But once i get my weapon upgrades my life will be that much better for it, right? RIGHT!?

But the good news is that 1-4 boss pluss dragon is now dead. The dragon just took a shitload of arrows, and i summoned a couple of BPs so the boss battle was fairly quick and painless, although one of the BPs died early on. 90k souls after he was dead, ka ching! It'll all go into "luck" to help me find my precious ores.

/goes back to killing fire lizards to find a single meltstone

valli: purple shield is a nice piece of kit indeed. I've got mine upgraded to +8.

Bizarrely Penetrator seemed easier in NG+, I've never seen a boss take so much damage from soul ray.
