After years of not being able to achieve this trick I am today able to spin a pencil over my thumb and catch it again! :'D

I'm so happy, I feel like I've joined a cool club or somthing. :))

Tomorrow I'm going to learn how to juggle. ^_^

Actually I have this habit. It’s silent and non-vibrating, so completely acceptable! :)

Razz – next step is to learn how to flick it back the other way. Then you have to do it with two pens in two hands.

I wish I'd figured this out, spent a while trying it in work until someone got pissed off with a pen hitting my keyboard every few seconds. Bastards. Don't they know I'm trying to be skillfull over here!

Advanced spinning.

Get it to do a couple of extra spins on your knuckle before you catch.

And don't forget the vertical spin.

I can do the whole spinning pen inbetween fingers thing, and I can pretty much do a knuckle roll with a poker chip, although only when I'm concentrating on it specifically.

And then move onto this.

Wow! So much to learn. :)

You guys got any more advanced guides on how I can level up? Actually I need to be able to do this consistantly first. I can't catch the pen anymore. :/

Flicking it back the other way is just a case of not letting the pen slip under your forefinger on the way round, and instead using your forefinger to stop it and then send it back the other way.

I say “just a case of”, but actually I still can’t do it. It took me about a year or two to get a 100% success rate on the standard flick, another year to get to the same place with my left hand, and I’ve been trying the “flick back” for about a year on top of that with so far no success at all.

I can't do it with a pen, but I'm able to do it with a kitchen knife. No casualties to-date.

With a kitchen knife? o_O Holy shit. Did they teach you that in the Chinese restaurant?

Edit: fixed link

I've managed it with a broom a couple of times - very slowly. Easier without the head.

Not sure Razz'll do too well with broom handles.

No, in an English restaurant actually. I can also flip it under my index finger. I haven't tried this in a long time, so I won't be bringing any knives to London this Friday.

Is this the same method heavy metal drummers use to spin their drumsticks?

Aww.... I'll wait till you've had a few and give you a knife to entertain us. :)

Heh.

Maybe he could have two brooms. One for spinning and the other for that other thing.

They're all much of a muchness. I'd suggest you get a longer one (1m isn't very long) and maybe one with double wicks. It's also good if the part in the middle with the grip binding stuff is quite long too, and doesn't have big plastic things at either end.

I'm not explaining this very well...

You can put that on your CV now, Razz.
