Hi there!

My name is Helios, and I'm the Community Liaison Officer at Codemasters for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. It's my pleasure to announce that the Turning Point demo has just been released on Xbox Live and is now available for download.

Now you can experience the explosive opening scenario from Turning Point: Fall of Liberty which opens as the sun rises over New York on a September morning in an alternative 1953.

The demo sees players assume the role of Dan Carson, a New York City construction engineer, at work on the girders of a skyscraper. The invasion intensifies and as the skies fill with Zeppelins, jet aircraft and assault blimps, the skyscraper takes several direct hits. With the building collapsing around him, Carson must run for his life, heading towards the relative safety of the street.

The rest of the demo includes lots of gunplay, grenades, and action - showcasing some of the game's great set-piece combat in an iconic setting.

We'd love to hear your comments and general feedback so please let us know what you think!

If you'd like to see some brand new screenshots, just head over to http://www.codemasters.co.uk/turningpoint

Have fun!

Not had a chance to play it yet, but I really hope it's good. It's not been massively high on my radar, but from what I've see/read it looks very promising. If it's got the base genre mechanics right, then it'll doubtless be good. If not, then expect some criticism.

I will say that people here are very honest (in a good way), so you'll be getting some very decent feedback at least.

I'm afraid I'm going to be a bit brutal and say this: if you're releasing a game as poor as this (from the demo anyway) and need feedback from people to tell you whether it is any good or not, then really you shouldn't be making games.

Is there any tearing in it?

Didn't notice any but then the turning is so slow that its unlikely to occur anyway!

Try this link instead:

Then just go to the screenshot tab located towards the top.

Have also now edited the original post.

I'll repeat what I said before -

Fucking horrid. Those complaining about Turok have to play this, it'll feel like a breath of fresh air afterwards.

The annoying movement delay of Turok is there, couple with the worse hit boxes ever. I mean ever. You can shoot someone crouched next to a rock at point blank range in the face and if the cursor isn't red, it doesn't register. There's three settings of sensitivity which vary from retard to hyperactive and the normal is slow as fuck.

Shame as it's got a nice idea. The design is fuckballing terrible though.

---

Sorry, had to be honest. It's truly got some promising stuff but the setpiece intro can't outweigh the appalling gameplay. Bullets don't register hits either - the ship that flies past with the two shooting at you, I had no idea I was hitting one until he fell over.

Also a gun flew at me at one point. Maybe a glitch.

edit again - other things included glitching between different views, the terrible close-up direction on taking out an enemy and the fact the scene where you enter the building after the descent doesn't hook up despite a quick load. Also seems that restarting takes longer than the initial load.

Hopefully the seething rage didn't completely hide my enthusiasm for the idea and constructive-ness!

Did I mention the costume design on the Nazi's was pretty bad too? Erk...

I imagine that delivered in an 'Are there any women here today?' type voice. :)

Poor Helios, well done for trying to get some feedback though!

Pity this wasn't Ubisoft, they could have slipped us all a tenner to rave about it.

Well if it's early days then they may be able to tweak the settings and level scripting before release. The fact they're asking for feedback would suggest this. Hopefully.

They'll need to "take it back to formula", if anything.

It's due out in a month, little chance anything can be changed now.

Not played the demo yet but I'm wondering if I should bother, perhaps just to see how much of a train wreck it is...

It's worth bothering with. It'll bring down the weight of expectation about FPS'. We're so used to fantastic games recently we need a bad demo to make us realise that those were thought were terrible, like Turok and Timeshift, really aren't that bad. Just they're plastic jewellry surrounded by the real deal, with a lump of rock called Turning Point's demo nearby for reference.

Sorry, but it REALLY is that bad.

Due out in a month? oh, let's hope it's not too late.

I really hope they don't use the "The demo doesn't represent the game. The game is much better." cop out as that's just lame. Don't release a demo that has no bearing on the final product then.

Anyone else played it then?

I'd be curious as to whether Codemasters actually give a crap about our feedback.

I'm still here taking note of your comments regarding the demo, and will be passing it on to the relevant departments.

just watched my manager have a go. Nice idea, nice set piece ideas - poorly implemented.
Do planes really fly at about 15mph as they appear to when they 'zoom' past?
Also the statue of liberty bombing looked ass - sorry :(

Must be disspiritng for you Helios, I kind of dell sorry for you.

Not as sorry as the dev teams who have slaved away for months when you deliver this forum's opinions though. I recommend leaving a print out on someone's desk and running away!

I'm downloading now, and will give some (hopefully) constuctive feedback on the various aspects of the game as soon as I feel I have the feel of it down. I reserve the right to give in though.

Fair enough, sorry to sound harsh about it. Just I'm very used to witnessing reps come in all jaunty about feedback and the end result being exactly the same.

What this game needs is a complete re-evaluation otherwise it'll be a bit of a disaster on release, sink without a stone and be seen on bargain bins within two months, or new at £17.99 on Play.com.

Hopefully you guys will look at Timeshift as an example of re-evaluation, although I wouldn't go all "dark". If anything pep it up even more, at least the typical UE3 look isn't present. And the intro screen is nice...with the people standing around the telly.

Haven't played the demo yet, still at the office, but from what I can tell... screenshots, vids, and other's opinions... You guys should rework the whole game before shipping. The graphics look a bit cartoony like Team Fortress but not on purpose and you have to fix the mechanics before you launch or you will have another Midway scenario after Blacksite where everyone gets sacked or quit before being sacked.

The core "what if" idea of the Nazi's invading the US east coast is grand. I've been looking forward to this game since I first heard about it a year or so ago. I'll be happy to wait another year if you can at least put something out of COD3 quality.

You can tell a game is bad when that is one of the plus points.

A real shame if this has turned out as bad as you lot say it has.

It actually looked fairly promising, I love a bit of alternate history aswell.

I'll still try the demo when I can, maybe it'll be worth picking up when it eventually does land in that bargain bin...you never know.

/If it's anything like call of honour, medal of valour or whatever it was called I'll be sick :D

/Hour of victory, that was where I was going...eventually.
