PT, you must have grown up reading Steve Worland in MBUK? Reports on road.cc that he passed away, sadly.

Did the 60 mile Surrey Hills Cyclone this morning. Legs are knackered. For those that know them, Barhatch Lane and Whitedown were punishing, but still managed to hit my target of getting round in less than 5 hours.

My Garmin has messed up though and is refusing to sync/transfer the ride for some reason which is annoying.

Yeah, I saw it on the Singletrack homepage. :(

I hope he was doing something he loved when it happened.

Unrelated, if any of you Trainer Road lot want a real challenge, try either Megantic + 2, Richardson + 2 or Xalibu + 2. I don't know if it's that I've exercised every day for the last two weeks, or if it's that they're just crazy hard... but fuck me, Megantic nearly killed me.

I really wouldn't try Xalibu + 2... at least not at an accurate FTP.

Such a great ride today, much better without those crazy winds, managed a burst up to 30mph on a flat, chuffed with that.

    You better watch out.
    You better beware.

Yep, weather was great today. Was nice to see the sun and be warm for a change. Hopefully made a good start on my cyclist's tan. :D

Shimano 105 is going 11-spd, plus they've introduced a mechanical shifter with a hydraulic braking option.

    Fall-tastic edition of Gent-Wevelgem yesterday.
Greipel is out with a broken collarbone, poor chap.

Exciting weeks ahead! Flemish classics are coming! Any of you nutters traveling to the continent to have a ride on the race's course the day prior?

Hope they make a better job of it than SRAM did.

I am riding the 160km version of the Liege Bastogne Liege route at the end of April. Did it last year, liked it so much I'm going back.

I'm sure it was his own muscle that snapped the bone when he pushed out 1800w of power.

Just the Etape on the cards for me, all being well. I'd love to get to Belgium though, it's next in the list.

Just heard I've got a club entry spot for the Ride London too, which is nice after missing the main ballot.

Anyone london based check out the Easter Monday ride we're running from Essex way, 100 and 50k options on Easter Monday.

I wouldn't be surprised if the pro's had that, but I meant when he was trying to pull the bars off the stem ;)

Aaah turns out the broken collarbone was his self diagnosis after he fell.
It's actually torn ligaments. Sounds quite unpleasant either way.

A third degree AC luxation of the collarbone was the conclusion after the examination. Because of the crash the collarbone was dislocated and both ligaments between collarbone and shoulder have been completely pulled off.

Tonight Greipel will undergo surgery by doctor Toon Claes. The torn ligaments will be replaced and a little plate will be fixed to strengthen it. Of course Greipel will spend the night in hospital.

Be safe in a few weeks Mike! ;-)

I think I'd rather just the broken bone than tearing the ligaments from where they're supposed to stay attached to...

Have you got a link? Easy 100k on the Monday before LBL sounds like a jolly. I can finally inspect your outrageous Italian bike frippery ;-)

I'd be interested in that too. Whereabouts in London do you set of from? Not sure the bike will be up to it mind. Was making some worryingly creaky sounds yesterday.

    https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/105549/Easter-Classic

All the details there. I've apparently volunteered to work at the end of ride HQ so I'll have to see about wether I ride the thing myself. I'd like to though, but I might have to start earlier and smash it round to be back in time if I do.

Fuck! That was a bit of a weird fall. Be was just trying to move up the peloton on the outside and just sort of ran out of pace or lost balance.
There's such massive pressure from the teams for their riders to move up. Too many people trying to manoeuvre to the front and you get all these crashes. It's madness. Sucks to see someone who worked hard all winter see their season lost by dumb stuff like that.

    Hello bicycling peoples!
I find myself with some money left over from our annual bonus after the bills have been paid, and while I was going to upgrade my iPad from a Mk1 to an Air, I think my general health would benefit more from buying a bike.

I just want to pootle around at weekends / evenings, and generally replace the car for sub 5 mile journeys where I'm not carrying much.

I think I need a 'hybrid'. It has to be able to cope with crappy London streets, maybe the odd towpath but I'm not going off road and don't need it to be the quickest thing on the street. I know I'd prefer flat handlebars to dropped ones.

A bit of poking about suggests something like this (Specialized Sirrus Elite) would do the job.

Are Evans any good, or would I be better off with an independent bike shop? I'm in North London, but work up in town, so can get to a few places.

    Cheers!

Evans are usually of a decent enough standard, a bit hit and miss depending on the particular staff you encounter. Where in North London are you? There's a few of us living round there so can probably recommend somewhere close.

The Sirrus is an alright bike, big brand peace of mind for a slightly higher price than smaller competitors. Quite nippy too.

Thnaks. I'm in Enfield, and work in Victoria, but happy to travel a bit further afield for decent service.
