Haha ... it was linked elsewhere but the video had been set to private.
    That's pretty good.

how useful is arsebutter/chamois cream? I've got a 70 miler a week Sunday, I've done several 100milers before (but not for several years) and not had a massive massive problem but loads of people swear by it.

This time I'm doing it on a full on road bike which will make the vibrations alot worse as the 100milers were either on a tourer or full suspension.

Don't make a 70 mile ride the first you use any new stuff on, chamois cream included.

You don't want to be nipping off to the bushes to desperately wipe the slime off with a leaf when you realise you hate the feeling after 5 miles.

I've done long rides without it... and the experience was far less pleasant. Makes most difference when you might be riding the day / soon after.

If nothing else I find takes away some of the niggles in pad movement / placement that I normally notice when I'm not using it.

You did 100 miles on a full suspension bike?! That is very impressive/mental...

I wouldn't want to do it off road, but I'd be fine doing it on road.

I'd totally go for slapping on the Gooch Butter - it might feel a bit odd to start with, but goddamn it makes long rides more comfy. Slap some on and go for a shorter ride beforehand.

Other than that, I would agree with Elstoof, don't go fiddling with things before a long ride.

Talking of the old butter, anyone particularly recommend any brands?

I've been using Assos ( http://www.wiggle.co.uk/assos-chamois-cream/ ) but I'm out so I'd happily try something else. I... uhh... prefer the ones with a bit of tingle.

I'm guessing that would definitely tingle.

Just don't confuse it with this one.

Think that Assos one is what I use. No complaints.

I want to pick up some energy gels so I might get some of that stuff saturday as well. I'm aiming for a Sunday ride so I can try it out then.

The 70 miler will be my third ride on the bike I'm using for it so I've got no idea how I will feel on it after a decent trip - so far its' only got 21 on the clock!

    Thanks for the advice.

Came for a trawl through cycle talk, left with mental images of ass lube. :(

    You have an imagination barrier.

    Here's a question.

Work colleague who knows I like cycling but isn't a cyclist himself was over at South by Southwest.

He very thoughtfully bought me a cycling cap as a present. From Mellow Johnny's. Is it OK so long as I wear it ironically?

I'd definitely wear it, but if you ever saw me you'd realise I'm not the best role model for cycling fashion. Fuck it, I'd wear Livestrong just for the yucks if it wasn't illegal to buy THERE I SAID IT.

I reckon maximum Road Wanker points could be achieved with the following combination

Full Rapha or Assos, with the exception of a Livestrong jersey & wristband,
Standard Road Bike with a squeaky chain and clip on TT bars, handle bar level with saddle.
    TT helmet, aero overshoes.
Triathlon behind seat bottle cages. Top Tube snack box filled with gels.

    :D

Add some Oakleys with the HUD attachment, and a back wheel mounted so badly you can hear the brake rubbing at 50w.

Well I have clip on aero bars (on standard road bike) and a top tube filled with gels! I almost bought a behind the seat bottle cage the other day as well.

But that's totes legit if you're doing a triathalon. :-)

It's the Rapha/Livestrong combo that really is your Wanker force multiplier.
