I have some exciting (well, for me anyway) news.

I applied for a spot as a New Builder at next year's Bespoked Show. And I've been accepted.

It's being held at the Olympic Velodrome April 11-13

    Woop!

If EG cycling thread regulars don't get priority treatment I'll be very disappointed!

I'm not doing anything that weekend, I may have to come over and say hello. (Congrats btw!)

Thought this was a good read on Froome.

His cycling childhood sounds harsh, but awesome.

Describing the trial as a relatively routine case of driving without due care and attention, prosecutor Stephen Poole added:

Can't have been that simple as he lost the 'without due care and attention' part. But a good result.

Road tax covers the damage you do to the roads,  no? Council tax pays for them.

As with drivers, there are plenty of wanker cyclists giving us normal ones a bad name.

Sorry, vehicle tax. :-)  But it is to pay for damage,  no?  Road and environmental.

Hey, thinking about it, given I pay more than most, does that mean I get to me more of a prick on the road too? I reckon I could probably manual my mountain bike up the back of someone's car with a bit of practice.

VED is specifically an environmental-damage based tax, as it's banded based on CO2 emissions. Hence a Prius gets you a zero level payment.

However, like virtually all non-local taxes in the UK it's hypothecated i.e. paid into a general pot which is then distributed across all government services.

The whole "Road Tax" thing is a massive pain in the arse as the (IMO, deliberate) misuse of the term in the media is a direct troll for people who want to prioritise cars ahead of other forms of transport. Like the people who paid good advertising money to said media outlets. It breeds a sense of entitlement that's totally unjustified.

I also happen to own quite a powerful car, but I try to use it as little as possible. I reckon I've done more miles by bike than car for the past 3 years.

Not hypothecated you mean Mike! But yeah, it's not been ring fenced since the 60s or something

Nothing too exotic, 653 or something like that. I'm happy to have you try any techniques you may want to experiment with too :D currently got some mad ideas about copper plating a frame for the ultimate bling.

Looks like a trip to Aldi's is in order, my legs were like ice tonight so some cycling trousers are in order, might get one of those jackets as well to suit.

Or shall I ask for them as a chrimbo present.

Can I tough it out till christmas, I don't know it's fucking freezing.

Is it supposed to be like this?

Hah, I feel your pain, sir. I'm still braving it with the shorts - I really do hate the hassle of pulling 'tights' on and off at work - unless it's for Rocky Horror.

I got some great tights/trouser things from Decathlon last time I was in France at my in laws. Great for €12, not sure they'd do on much colder than this though.

I'm a pansy compared to most. I didn't really get into it young enough to build that whole fearless streak.
