Good luck psycho. :-) Does bleeding involve leeches?

Just realised that the classics season is creeping closer again.
Omploop Het Nieuwsblad Feb 23rd, then March 31st Ronde Van Vlaanderen and april 7th Paris-Roubaix.

    Not long now!

Starting to suspect that this calf thing is actually a blood clot. Am going to go to the walk in clinic tomorrow (if I can get up).

Ice and ibuprofen for the last two weeks have done nothing.
It never did sound like cramp tbh
Did make me smile but then realised why you'd posted it..

    You had diagnosed cramp..

    ;-)

I know, but seriously, who knew! I actually have had symptoms just like Pyscho, but in my case it genuinely was cramp!

All the best Psychotext, hope you're back up and at 'em soon. I'm just going to get back to my day job as a crime-fighting particle physicist if that's OK with everyone? :D

Joy, fucking DVT. 5 days of injections at the hospital. Three months or more on anti-coagulant medication. 2 years of wearing a stocking.

Fuck... I might as well shave my legs and wear lycra.

Get well soon mate. Shitty start to the new year.

Not been out for 6 weeks, after life got in the way (daughter has been ill). Suffering badly, not to mention the Christmas diet didn't help....

My bikes have basically been impounded by my local bikeshop owner, he's fucked off on Holiday or something but when I got back from London at the end of December his phone was off and has remained so since.

I leave for London on Sunday and it's looking likely that I still won't have my bikes, and so they will have to be sent down at a later date along with all the rest of my junk. nargh!

    eek...get well soon chap.

You'll be right as rain in no time and you can use the time off to recharge the batteries. Too many people don't know when to rest and they end up going backwards in improvement.

    No biggy...

    +1

Sorry to hear about your problems, PT. At least it'll be a bit warmer by the time you get back on the bike.

Oh - and please do post up the pictures of the stockings:

Crumbs, DVT. How the bloody hell do you catch that? Are you sure you didn't just get bitten by some calf parasite thing out in the woods or something?

As predicted by many people it's looking like Armstrong is looking to come clean, and no doubt re-write history at the same time: http://www.cbssports.com/general/story/21496097/report-armstrong-weighs-admitting-to-doping

How has a guy who goes out cycling every weekend got DVT? Are/were you generally unfit before you started cycling or something?

I spend most days sat on my arse working/driving/slobbing. The thought of DVT sometimes bothers me enough to get out on the bike!

Anyone can get it, I happen to be more likely to get it because I'm genetically (or hereditarily) predisposed to it (certain proteins or something, I don't remember exactly what they said).

Usually something like that would occur because of an injury but for me it happened because of a previous muscle tear restricting blood flow combined with my fever making me extremely dehydrated plus finally spending two days in bed because of said fever.

From what I've been reading it can happen to athletes a lot after injuries. Though no direct injury in this case for me.... and no, it's been a long time since I was anything like unfit.

Oh, and I cycle pretty much every other day... not just on the weekend.

Hopefully this shit hasn't damaged my muscles too much to affect that going forward. :(

I can't see it to be honest but if he does it will be for self serving reasons. And unless he grasses up everyone involved, including the UCI I couldn't care less. All those people he either bullied, pushed out of the sport or took to the cleaners in court, the guy can rot as far as I'm concerned.

And if he does he will spend the rest of his life being taken to court by pretty much everyone.

So far it's still just rumours started at NY Times and sources haven't been named. Neither USADA or WADA have been contacted by Armstrong as yet. Still can't see it myself..especially a complete confession.

The general feeling is that he was going to use it as an excuse to paint himself a new victim image. Something along the lines of the pressures of having to recover from cancer and that everyone was doing it so he felt forced into doing it too etc etc.

Completely avoiding the reality, like I said, basically a rewrite of history.

It's a risky tactic, no doubt... but who knows what goes on in that mind of his.

I read that but that's just journalists speculating. He hasn't said anything like that as far as I'm aware. In fact he's said nothing.

Could be that his legal people have tactically released a tiny bit of gossip to test the water perhaps. Get the general response from the cycling world, general public etc before coming clean. The can of worms it will open will be massive though and he'll spend the next few years either in court or prison. Marion Jones went to prison for less..

Unrelated, when at the hospital I bought myself a "100 years of the tour de France" magazine. I didn't actually get the chance to look at it, but it seems like it should be interesting (it had better be for the price).
