Nephew just had his bike stolen. He loaned it to his housemate and the stupid bitch left it outside a shop.

Same thing happened to a guy a lived with in uni, lent his bike to a neighbour he wanted to tap and she got it stolen.

He didn't even get her into bed either. Double lose.

Stupid thing is, he's not even trying to get into her knickers, he was just being nice. What's worse is that she already has a bike, but she didn't want to ride it because it's heavy.

Man, he loved that bike. And I'd literally just finished booking for a day away next week at Coed Y Brenin. I was only half an hour from buying him a new fork for it. :(

    Fucking gutted.

He'd just moved and hadn't sorted it out yet. One thing on top of another. Basically he's a grand or so out on the loss.

...and I'm about to be a grand and a half out covering his new one until he can repay me.

Poor kid, I can imagine how gut wrenching it feels to have one nicked. Good on you for helping out.

...unless this is just so you can take "payment" from the housemate yourself?

What kind of moron leaves a bike worth a grand outside a shop without securing it? I'd expect her to pay for it

The word now is that it was "secured". She put one of those accessory securing cables on it. They have the guy on CCTV (not his face sadly) and he cut through it in a single movement before riding off a second later.

    @andytheadequate it'd mainly be woods / fields and off road. It's this one scheme;

    http://www.bike2workscheme.co.uk/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=cycle%2Bto%2Bwork&utm_campaign=Bike%2B2%2BWork%2BScheme

I think I might go for that one you linked though, maxes out my limit and should last! Got a fair few woods around me to get me started!

Edit: just realised I'll own a push bike more expensive then my car!

At least it'll hopefully be much cheaper than running a car...well, in the long-run - excluding needless(but fun) wheelset/groupset/seat/pedal/tyre upgrades!

Oh, and accessories - never forget those shiny accessories.

My bike costs me far more to maintain than my car does ...

If you ride off road then you need a proper mountain bike. Hope you enjoy it, it's brilliant fun. Where are you based?

My decision to sack RideLondon off today worker out nicely - they cut the only 2 interesting bits off, Leith and Box Hill, making for an 86 mile spin around some of the flattest roads in the country, through the pissing rain. No thanks.

Didn't know that. Why? What's the point?

I agree though, sitting here looking out at the rain, I'm not to disappointed at not getting a place. Will probably still try and get one for next year though.

I know, Rule #5, HTFU and all that, but a spin through Putney and Dorking then home doesn't really inspire this Londoner to leave the house at 5am to sit at Olympic Park for an hour in the rain before I'm allowed to start riding.

They snipped the nose off the route due to the weather Mega, I guess they didn't want to risk any accidents on the descent with all the nervous charity riders etc.
