Pfft, have you no heart! It's a great film, utterly charming imo

Charming is not the word I'd use, but it was better than a 4/10, that's for sure.

I found it really boring. Boring characters, boring dialogue, boring action. The fact that they tried to make it remotely plausible by explaining things just made it even less believable imo.

And also having the cameraman hardly speak or have any role other than to hold the camera was silly.

    I am quite cynical though!

I liked Troll Hunter. Goes to show what can be done by a small country with low funds.

Wish we'd take a leaf out of their book rather than the safe, lazy period dramas that have all beeen done before.

There are loads of British films that are successful that aren't period dramas.

Pudsey the movie is just one.

Yeah, exactly. What about Mrs Brown's Boy D'Movie? Bean? Sex Lives of the Potato Men? Not a period in sight.

Can video games be a force for good? My latest article says yes!

That's because Mrs Brown is played by a man. Even then, isn't she an oap? Unlikely to be having periods.

I know she looks like a man but don't be ridiculous.

    Quiet Days in Clichy

Had this sitting on the HD for years. It's b&w and from 1970. The acting's kinda poor. The film has a certain charm, and naked women.

    7.5/10

    Film's good though.

Dawn of the planet of the apes

Was expecting a big dumb and entertaining action flick so was surprised when it turned out to be mostly not too dumb at all. While there was a bit of action later on it was deftly handled and wrapped around a pretty damned good film.

    Lone Survivor - 8/10

It goes a bit Hollywood at the end and the constant A-Team RPG strikes that do nothing even though they land at their feet but it's still a very solid war movie. Seems very authentic, (exp RPG-mania) and has a tone that just manages to stay on the right side of adulation. Three of the actors are very good but Marky Mark just looks too old for this role.

It also looks and sounds pretty tidy and even though the ending ain't no surprise there's a very impressive amount of tension that builds right from the start.

    Short Term 12 - 8.0/10

Very good little film about a kids' home. It can be pretty heavy going for sure, but there's a decent smattering of humour and joy to brighten some very dark moments.

Brie Larson is great, thought her boyfriend was a bit of a dope and Nate felt underwritten. Didn't get to know him (or the other female worker) at all, really.

It's really a lot of fun. It's like a live action cartoon, with over-the-top, but brilliant, martial arts and a lot of comedy.

The hunger games - 5/10. The mrs and I could not believe just how draaaaaaaawn out and boring it is. Couldn't wait for the end (which was pants) and the sequel is worse, it was like watching a fucking twilight movie.

The starving games - 7/10. Much better than hunger games. Entertaining with lots of larfs.

I'll take a wild stab and guess that The Starving Games is directed by the minds behind Meet the Spartans, Date Movie, and all those other shit parody movies.

Well, I haven't seen it, so I can't really judge. But if it has that pedigree, chances are I won't ever be seeing it.

Glad that you found it entertaining though!

Finally saw The Raid last night. Rare that a film lives up to such rabid hype - perhaps helps that the hype had died down long ago.

Kept plot to a minimum and just smashed one action scene after another. Brilliant.

    9/10
