The House at the End of the Street - 3/10
Not even the fair Ms Lawrence could save this from being an uninspired snooze-fest; an interest-free film.

    Double Indemnity - 9/10

Great plot twists and wonderful performances. I particularly enjoyed the character of Mr Keyes.

    Sunset Boulevard - 10/10

Fully warrants its status as a classic. Gloria Swanson's performance is unforgettable.

    Kiss Me Deadly - 7/10

The plot goes through some great twists, and the characters are really very unsympathetic (which is how I like them), but something about this film left me unsatisfied. One to watch again, I feel.

Double Indemnity is a favourite of mine - I'd rate it a tad higher than SB.

No doubt both are stone cold classics.

There's not much in it: maybe Double Indemnity should get a 10 too...

    Anchorman 2 5/10

Really disappointed in this, has some funny moments but its way too long and there's a fair few jokes that fall flat.

    Also, quickest ever director cameo?
PJ's cameos are always really short. I think I like the one in The Frighteners best.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

    Gangster Squad - 80/100

Really enjoyed it. A tad cliched and predictable with a few plot oversights but otherwise ace.

    Battleship - 65/100

Ok so it's not classic but I don't think it's as bad as a lot of the reviews seem to make out. Don't take it too seriously and it's a decent enough sci-fi alien invasion movie really.

    Cloud Atlas 54/100

I found this spliced collage of stories within stories to be very jarring. It left me with the feeling that someone had attempted to fuse the Time Machine film with the Butterfly Effect film and produced a very pointless and lengthy(2hrs 44) film that superficially presents some sort of parable. That in itself seemed very odd because I was left with a feeling that the story was trying to position itself as a type of modern day bible alternative of Scientology.

For most people that haven't read the book like me, I suspect it will like feel a little bit off the wall of the Matrix 2 or 3 variety. A combination of language dialogue issues and cutting back and forth between stories meant I didn't even have a grasp on the film's plot until I'd watched the first 50mins.

I'd be seriously surprised if many people can understand the film, never mind enjoy its superficial vision. So I'd struggle to recommend it.

What I shame. I've heard this from a number of different people. Will go and see it all the same.

Big Trouble In Little China - 10/10

Probably my 5th favorite film of all time, revisiting this film is always an absolute pleasure.

This is the new Arrow video Blu-Ray transfer and it's up to their usual excellent standards. Picture and sound quality are superb throughout.

Full of likable characters and great moments. Jack Burton is probably the only hero ever to not actually do anything and it's fucking hilarious. Most of what he does right is by accident. He's just a lovable buffoon.

John Carpenter's music is superb but what really makes this film special for me is the dialogue. Even though it's not written for all out belly-laughs it's very clever and snappy.

Just so many things that are done right in this film which you probably won't see in most other films. Burton running around with lipstick on his mouth for one thing. But my favorite scene in this film is just a short bit of dialogue and here it is...

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

It's a great film. Kim Cattrall was quite the stunner back then.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

Does any one else think that nowadays John Carpenter is starting to resemble the elderly Lo Pan?

Apparently the director's commentary on the BTILC DVD is brilliant, a real highlight - just John Carpenter and Kurt Russell having an awesome chat about the film as it plays.
