    After Earth 2/10

I actually thought the take a kneel part was a neat thing a culture might come up with, rest of the film is pretty bad. I mean how, why, they fly spaceships and stuff. They end up there, doesn't seem so bad. Accents, why. Just a pointless film for Will and son.

    Burn After Reading - 9/10

Simply brilliant stuff. I've seen it for the third time now and it's still excellent entertainment. Silly but still intelligent stuff at the same time.

    .
I watched this, this afternoon. I think it missed that special ingredient to make it a great film for me. I think it's because all the characters are that unlikeable, although each one had a draw to them. Just sums up the insanity of modern life but it was stupid people getting into a stupid fiasco. I guess you can ride with the tone of it and laugh at the people, or you could just pity them.

I guess the last line sums up it up. What did we learn palmer? (Which is a great line by the way) And i guess thats the point.

Laughed in a few places, and like the performances, but it did just miss something for me.

    i guess Burn after Reading : 6/10

@joelstinton I totally accept that viewpoint. I'll stick to my scoring but, without being all defensive about it, I may simply have been in the right mindset when I watched the movie.
I remember hating The Rock when I saw it (and I usually don't mind an action film) but most people seem to like that film. But at that time I hated all things military.

    Anyway...

    RED (first one) - 8/10

Again, highly enjoyable entertainment. As a movie much better than The Expendables, with which it shares a similar setup.
Mary-Louise Parker steals the show. Is she in RED 2?

edit: Just checked. She is! /swoon

Halloween (6): The Curse of Michael Myers

*sigh* There, that's the second worst of the series over and done with. I'm not even going to bother with Resurrection or H20. Up next are 5, 4, 3 and 2. Should be fun but I'm saving the original, which I just bought on blu ray, for Halloween night :)

    0.5/10

    The Tall Man

    Lame.

    1/10

    The Three Faces of Eve

Surprisingly good! Believable plot & great performances.

    8/10

It was an ego trip for the Smith family, was bound to fail.

    Laputa: Castle in the Sky

I've only just got around to watching this for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Up there with the very best of Studio Ghibli, in my opinion. It doesn't seem to be the most imaginative world they've created, but I loved it, visually. I was constantly thinking back to a number of video games. The airships are very similar to those in the Final Fantasy games and Laputa reminds me of Sky Sanctuary from Sonic the Hedgehog the Yggdrasil from and Dragon Quest IX.

Anyways, it was very entertaining, had a nice mix of action and humour, and was well paced. I just wish i'd seen it sooner.

    5/5.

You're thinking of it the other way round. Those games took inspiritation from Laputa. :)

    Ghandi

Admittedly great acting from Sir Ben does not make up for 3 hrs+ of an extremely slow paced yet details light history lesson.

I quite enjoyed Man of steel at the time.

Was fairly entertained apart from Amy Adams being a bland Lois Lane and the last 30 mins of destructo-city nonsense. Which now prompts me to bring ear-plugs to any sfx laden films from here on in...

But now, a few months after there is almost no memory of it - as is common these days unfortunately. fast food films.

Speaking of food - I wonder if Supes will pull a Ghandi in the next one and passively-aggressively threaten to kill himself through hungerstrikes every time people don't live up to his lofty ideals of peace and love...

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

One thing Man of Steel did right was the physicality of all the Kryptonians. For the first time, they moved like the superhuman aliens I imagined.

They move at the speed of light but with a weight that is so tangible I was literally in awe at the fights.

Its such a shame the movie is rubbish. But I could watch them fight all day like that and Fiora is blazing hot.

Man of Steel was rubbish. Characters, what characters. I liked how Lois and Clark crossed paths etc. and Crowe being Crowe. Kalel is right about the fights but it was terribly boring. The dog part, that was a good laugh.

The only thing i can remember fondly from Man of Steel was when Supes was 'learning' how to fly. That bit was alright.
  • Deleted user 16 October 2013 16:03:25
Man of Steel is an hour and a half of setup for an hour long fight sequence. But the setup is virtually pointless, given the fight sequence is about as emotional and engaging as a game of sudoku. It's the exact inverse of Superman Returns, which was all moral emotion with very little actually happening.

Whoever is changing thread titles, may as well change it to out of 10 instead of 100.

    Why the title change?

Made it weird. People are going to start liking Prometheus.

Links aren't highlighted in mobile view anymore.
