    Age of Dinosaurs - 2/10

The Asylum Films take on Jurassic Park. The effects are slightly better than the old Chewits adverts.

It get's two points. One for totally ripping off a scene shot for shot from JP. The other is for a dino stampede which makes you wonder what it'd be like if they really decided to cut loose with JP and have hundreds of them let loose in a city.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

    Pacific Rim 7/10

Enjoyable enough, experience marred by breakdown of air con at the cinema. Some fairly large plot holes but not enough to ruin it. Slightly weird seeing Jax from SOA as the lead.

Great special effects and fight scenes. Some cheesy dialogue throughout

Worth a view on the big screen

    Ted

For starters, Marky Mark looks a lot older than the character he was playing in this. When they showed him as a 9-yo in '85, I was like 'EFF YOU!'

Other than that, I thought there were a lot of LOL moments. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing it had going for it. It was all over the damned place. However, it was very funny, which is what it was supposed to be - so for that I'd say it was a minor success.

    74/100

    Sawdust and Tinsel (1953) 7/10

Iíve read good things about director Ingmar Bergman, and while The Seventh Seal failed to hold my attention, Sawdust and Tinsel was really quite watchable. Sure itís black and white, and the sound isnít great (it is from 1953) I wasnít expecting much technically, but the acting is really rather good. 7/10 8/10 I donít know.

Looks amazing. Got to admit, the story didn't do much for me. Well worth seeing on Blu-ray, if only to watch a great looking picture.

    Independence Day 4/10

Ethnic stereotypes ahoy! Bill Pullman does some of the worst acting of all time during the first sixty minutes but gets his shit together for the second half of the movie and knocks the motivational speech out of the park. The highlight of the movie is Jeff Goldblum who seems to be reprising his role of Dr. Ian Malcolm from the Jurassic Park movies.

"can we get Jeff in to do the Jurassic Park guy?"

I'd happily watch Jeff Goldblum doing whatever.

    Pacific Rim 7/10

I didn't like or care about any of the characters but nevertheless had a reasonably good time watching this. It really was an incredible sight watching the giant robot things battle the aliens and the action scenes were very well directed with none of the zoomed in shaky cam bullshit found in so many action movies.

Surely Jeff Goldblum only ever plays Jeff Goldblum? The only differences are the settings he's placed in.

Couple of movies I watched recently and really enjoyed:

Beasts of the Southern wild Really good performances and very soulful. Beautiful movie with a great sound track. At the time of watching it I would have it scored at 8/10 but the movie really stayed with me in my head so I'll give it a 9/10.

The Cloud Atlas If somebody told me they hated this movie, really hated it, then I would absolutely understand and probably know why they hated it. The reason I really liked it is probably the same reasons others might hate it. I liked that it's very non-linear and pretty weird. I really liked the span of years and all the different stories/eras. Again, very beautiful in places. I really enjoyed it so 9/10

@wobbly_Bob do you mean Beasts of the Southern Wilds or is there a different similarly named film?

    Hotel Transylvania - 7/10

Just watched with the kids, plenty of laughs, nice and light and fun, and probably the best thing Adam Sandler has done in years. Also, does anyone know if thats actually him rapping at the end? :-D

I haven't seen that part, but Sandler loves to sing so I'd guess it is!

Maybe if he could explain the point of attaching a pic of the DVD cover? So that it might be of use other than to annoy the shit out of everyone.

    Wall -E

What a great film. Still holds up a few years later. Those first 30 odd minutes are sublime, decent morals, (although nothing new), wonderful animation and score. All time classic.

    10/10.

    RED

Somehow never heard about it, saw ads for part two at the cinema last week and someone explained what it was all about, so I watched it the first chance I got.

Starts well enough, I was getting a True Lies vibe and was quite enjoying it. Unfortunately it loses its was badly in the second half and gets progressively less engaging approaching its tepid finale.

It was so bad, in fact, that by the time Morgan Freeman dies I no longer cared about him or anyone else for that matter.

The woman is hot, in a quirky kind of way. Exactly my type of girl...

6/10, mostly for the initial fond memories of Schwarzenegger being awesome.

I like it if someone takes the time to include the cover/sleeve. But, different folks for different folks I guess... No need for the hate though.

Pacific Rim - 9/10. Huge monsters gettin' the shit beat out of them by huge robots, the design of both of which was absolutely excellent, and extremely imaginative.

I actually gave the movie 11/10 because the robots and kaiju were so cool, and then deducted 3 points for the dialogue and characters being a bit stupid, and then added a point again because a lot of it was probably intentional, fan service and tipping its hat to the decades of anime and comics on the subject.

Basically, if you like monsters and robots, watch it!

    Pacific Rim - 9/10

A big, dumb robot film done in the most tasteful way possible. Yes, the dialogue is cringeworthy, but it's somewhat endearing. The fights were brilliantly done and I could actually see what was happening, despite them taking place at night. Art direction was flawless. There's a certain sequence in the film (Mako's flashback) that looks like an anime come to life.

Same here. Posters are important when I'm reading about something that I've never heard of especially.
