    Michael Clayton.

Decent, if limited. Problem with thrillers like this, is that they always end the same way, and have obvious plot devices brought in to make everything click together for you to go yeah!

Still, its very well acted, nicely shot, and a good tight script. Even if its probably to clean, and sharp (everything here, script and direction) and cold. Tom Wilkinson is great.

    8/10

I liked it. There are enough legal thrillers these days.

Give the new US tv show, Ray Donovan a watch, its very similar and Liev Schrieber is always great.

Thank fuck for that. I really thought I was the only person who didnt really care for it.
Add me to the list too. Dull as fuck, and I really didn't get the praise for the shoot-out. It's OK but there are far better films in the same genre out there imo
My memory was Heat came out to a general "Meh" reception. It certainly, however, seems to have become highly regarded over the years somehow.

Not seen it since it came out but I remember not thinking much of it at the time.

    Durango unchained 10/10

Wow. I did not expect to enjoy that anywhere near that much. Glued to the screen from start to finish, although there were numerous points where the standard Tarantino dialogue template threatened to pull me out. It's got a good rhythm and is very engaging, but there are certain chunks of his writing that you could rip out and place in any other one of his films and it would fit in, which grates on me after a while.

But still, loved it. Especially the ridiculous blood splats and bullet-impact stunts, they were fun.

Yeah I enjoy Heat for what it is, and it is a very well shot and directed film, but I never understood the almost Biblical level of praise for its various elements.

I does seem to boil down to OMGDENIROANDPACINO and also "ooooooh, they only share a single scene, cleverrrrrrrrrr".

Seems like Snyder has struck again with these negative reviews of Man of Steel (expected tbh). Honestly, he's worse than Bay.

What will the man fuck up next?
Actually I don't necessarily think he fucks anything up, if all he did was direct the filming of the script, he did a good job. The story is just a bit too fast/on rails/non-existent, which makes a lot of other things suffer.

I know he's not the most amazing director, but he's definitely got more going for him than Bay.

Where has all this hate for heat come from? I thought it was a great film. I did enjoy the town, even though it had Ben Affleck in it

It's just a few folk on the Internet saying they didnt enjoy it as much as a lot of people said they did, that's all. Don't worry, other people's perceptions of the film are unlikely to be altered :)

Yeah, me too. I find it pretty soulless and strangely muted.

I enjoyed Collateral quite a bit more.

Was calling it Durango Unchained deliberate?

Keeping in the spirit of the thread:

    Before Midnight - 9/10

Really nice continuation of Jesse and Celine's story. Lots of epic arguing this time, plus some more characters making the dynamic quite different to the previous films.

My wife loves those films, and having fessed up that I've never seen them, despite being a Linklater fan, I think I have a triple-bill coming up at some point.

@mikeck Right you are. I get confused by the titles.

Have you seen it? I don't want to see it unless it has a happy ending.

@Dougs They are really good films. Very likable. That's why I don't dare see the third one. Would break my heart if they fuck it up (not the film which I'm sure is great but their fictitious relationship)

    @Tonka :)

I'm in the same position, not seen it yet, want to, but need a happy ending. Pretty sure I'm not going to get one though.
