Maybe a bit, but it's definitely not a great film. Not as good as Wreck It Ralph, which I also thought was overrated.

ParaNorman is better than either of them.

On an unrelated note, the first DVD cover in blacksea's post suggests that the film should actually be Miss Baja, from the looks of the sash she's wearing. Is that intentional (I'm not familiar with Mexico or Spanish in general) or the worst typo ever?

Children's films are such different beasts now its hard to compare them, Paranorman, Rise of the Guardians and Wreck it Ralph are all very good in my opinion, just not very similar.

I've turned off all the avatars and crap, so don't expect me to be impressed by yours.

    The Expatriate

As exciting as the title makes it sound. In fact, if this film had been about ugly yuppies watching Manchester United games in a Dubai pub, it would have been more entertaining.

Trying desperately hard to be Taken, and failing in every respect (and Taken is a 6/10 film at best imo), it's a thriller with no thrills that's set in Belgium because presumably they got a grant for it that way. Problem is that Belgium is boring.

    So bard it hurts.

    2/10

Let The Right One In - 8/10

Scandinavian flick about two lonely young souls who find each other and form a special bond. One of them is a vampire though, which is always bound to make things awkward. I liked its cross-genre nature and the relationship between the two leads was quite touching. The two main child actors were pretty good. Definitely several steps above that Twilight dross.

Great film, surprisingly the US remake is rather good too, definitely worth a watch.
Indeed. The original Scandinavian film is wonderful, but I also thought they made a very good job of the US remake. Both are certainly well worth a watch.

    Iron Man 3

Good fun and a more intimate experience that the first two. The climax almost ruins the film though by being overly long and Michael Bay-esque. I think the story has run its course, so happy if this is the last one.

    Star Trek Into Darkness

EPIC! All I can say is that some of you lot are miserable fuckers if you didn't get a kick out of this. Brilliant entertainment from start to finish with a cast of characters you care about. I am very, very happy that Abrahams is doing Star Wars.

    Mama

Starts creepy, gets scarier, then throws the whole thing away with a frankly bonkers final act.

Guillermo Del Toro really should be a little more selective about what he puts his name to.

    Dark Water Netflix

Jennifer Connelly gets wet, a lot, in this New York wet-athon. A fairly predictable by the numbers psychological thriller. You've seen it all before. John C Reilly entertains as a plucky letting agent.

    6/10

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

    Killing Them Softly

    Hard to rate.

    The soundtrack is painfully unimaginative.
Brad Pitt's concluding speech is both enjoyable and contrived.

The sum is much less than its parts, but I can't put my finger on why.
I suppose it's because a movie of this calibre has no right to be so heavy-handed and preachy.

    6.5/10

    or a generous 7/10

Iron Man 3. Bit meh, really. Went on for far too long, and way too many moments of "why didn't you just do that in the first place?" faux-tension and broken logic (like struggling for an hour and a half with a broken suit, only to magically summon dozens of the fuckers in the last fifteen minutes, or flying suit parts that can somehow travel 800+ miles in about three minutes, which means they can apparently travel at 16,000 mph).

And the wishy washy "then we fixed EVERYTHING" voiceover ending was just another piece of a movie that's basically vague and utterly lacking in tension and drama. And the random cameo from the guy from Happy Endings was just weird.

    Iron Man 3

    Pretty much exactly that ^

Oh I also watched Side Effects which in my opinion is Soderbergh's best work since Traffic.

Eh, I liked Iron Man 3, though I do recognise the afore-mentioned broken logic bits.

A thousand times this. That film belongs in special movie hell, along with that batman movie with Arnie in it.

On a brighter note - Arachnophobia - 70%. A nice silly 90s film with some well known faces. Read Wikipedia afterwards and it turns out they used spiders from New Zealand, and that the particular species is mostly harmless to humans. Wish I'd known that as a kid.

Surprisingly effective crocodile flick from the guy that directed Wolf Creek.

Seven Psychpaths - great cast, a couple of nice gags, but a completely confused (not confusing, it's too simple for that) story with twists that lead nowhere. Not nearly as funny, coherent or moving as In Bruges, 5/10.

I enjoyed Rogue though felt the ending was a little bit 'Hollywood' compared to the rest of it.
