    Oldboy - 9.5/10

First time seeing it and I have no idea why it's taken me so long. Loved it. Hope the remake doesn't suck too much.

Sharlto Copley is in the remake. He's been quiet since the A-Team.

Im wondering if we are talking about the same movie.

    Although the ending is stupid.

The first ending, not the bit where he kills the therapist so he can continue to screw his daughter.

Oh come on, it's wank. I hate films based on such a flimsy unreasonable premise (ie, the grudge against the protagonist)

The remake may not suck but it will still be pointless, much like all the other remakes of Asian cinema.

You are a factory of sadness.

Its ok to a point but, as I say, the final showdown borders on the ridiculous.

Stripped down it's a fairly ploddy revenge story, but it's just so off-whack in terms of it's execution I think it's a fascinating watch. The twist at the end is totally ridiculous, but I don't think that is a criticism given the context of the rest of the film.

The Consequences of Love (2004) 9/10

The first time I watched this, I couldnít get into it. On returning to it, over 8 months later, I totally got it. Itís slow, and the idea of a story about someone who exists in a Hotel may sound boring, but the film makers have kept it interesting, although its still not for everyone.

If you are wondering why someone would choose to live in a Hotel?

    *SPOILER ALERT*
Titta Di Girolamo, an ex stock-broker screwed up, and lost the Mafia a ton of money. Since they knew he had not stolen it, instead of killing him, they allowed him to work for them, his job: Exist in a Hotel, and once or twice a week take delivery of a suitcase full of cash, and deposit it into a bank. Between visits, all Titta can do is wait. He is essentially living dead. What will Titta do?

Wasn't it Morgan Freeman who trash talked Obama for not being black.

He argued that Obama being heralded as "the first black president" when he's really mixed race was a bit silly. But he used it in the sense that "calling him the first black president means the racist old GOPs are gunning for him" rather than a "HE AIN'T BLACK ENOUGH FOR ME" one.

    Dreams of a life -

Documentary looking at woman who was found dead 3 years after she died, with the tv on, and pills unpaids.

Probably not the best film to watch just before you go to bed. Its very unsettling, but very intriguing and well told story. The film attempts to deconstruct her life through friends, flat mates and lovers stories through out her 38 year life.

Which comes up with some interesting answers, some contradictory with other peoples, but also how can some one who is so popular, loved and admired, allowed to disappear for 3 years without no one realising she had been dead.

    Chilling.

    8/10

What's this Oldboy bashing in here?! Weirdos. It's a fabulous experience of a movie.

    Ambulance Girl: 6/10
Fairly innocuous made-for-TV-movie starring Kathy Bates. She's one of my all-time favourites.

    Silver Linings Playbook 6/10

I don't understand the acclaim for what turns out to be a fairly generic rom-com. The acting is unremarkable, and if anything Lawrence is badly miscast; far too young for her character.

I thought the movie actually missed probably its strongest message, that a couple with diagnosed mental health issues turn out to be relatively sane in comparison with their family and friends.

So I know it's not the right thread but there isn't a Rate The Last Musical You Went To See Thread, so here seems a reasonable place to put this:

    The Book Of Mormon 95%
Relentelssly funny. I've never experienced a room so totally out of control with laugher, people were gasping for breath head in hands doubled over for large chunks of the run time.
Perfectly satirises it's targets in a clever way without turning jaded or cynical. Somehow managing to contain child rape and still have a sweet heart is quite the trick.
It's hard to fault in almost any aspect, the writing is amazing with almost no fat on the bones at all.
Legitimately one of the best things I've ever seen.

    Brap, brap, old chap.
