Registered 10 years agoDracula was in many ways a love story. It's really not a recent or particularly groundbreaking element to horror.
Let the Right One In however does something completely different with the whole "love story" thing. It's not that kind of love for starters. -

Registered 7 years agoHorror (for me) is about setting out to shock and scare the audience. That isn't what Let the Right One In is about. You wouldn't call Pan's Labyrinth or Drive horror, but both of them are as gruesome.
It's best to say it transcends genre.LB, you really are a massive geek.

Registered 10 years agoThere is quite a lot in Let the Right One In that is pretty shocking and potentially scary to be frank. It's not exactly The Little Vampire. -
On the subject of horror, has anyone seen the redband trailer for the Evil Dead remake? Dare I say it looks like it could be good.

Having said that, I don't trust trailers anymore. I mean, even Twilight looked pretty good in the trailer - because all the 'best' bits of the film fitted into it.
I can't remember the last trailer I saw that gave a genuine feel for a film without just trying to fool people with the best bits. Maybe Cabin in the Woods.

really really enjoyed it.
Great cast/acting and well thought out/put together.
Glad there was no US flag waving pro america bullshit.
At times it comes across as very anti-american and critical. It critices the US governement, CIA, NSA and even the Navy Seals.
Still hard to belive that they knew where he was and did nothing for 146 days -

Great film let down badly by Tarantino being allowed to indulge too much with his screenplay and looong running time.
If they cut 30min it would have been a much tighter better film. As its stands it just seems a bit like a tarantino ego trip.
Someone needds to say NO Tarantino now and again.

I once watched Beastmaster fast-forward through a film.
He spoiled all the best bits by saying stuff like:
"Oh you should see this bit when X happens."
2/10. -

true but he needs to remember hes making a film and as such even if he thinks scenes are "cool" if theya re not relevant or have no part really in adavncing the story they need to be cut out.
Inglorious BAterds was tight and taut but still brilliant tarantino. This just felt a bit too oooh look at me. -

It actually does look pretty damn good. Drenched in atmosphere with what looks to be decent cast and a director who's insisting on doing all his effects practically. Was dreading this film but actually have gone from cursing it with every breath to really wanting to see it.

Talking of remakes (ish)...
Total Recall (new one)
Actually really enjoyed this. Decent effects nice style that was a bit minority report, blade runner and arnie era TR all mixed in.
Lost steam the more it went on and I thought bill nighy was pretty miscast. But for the first hour I had a great time with this. Still glad I saw it.
