    The Crazies (2010) 3/10

I went into the film not expecting much, in hope of a surprise, and got less.
I could elaborate. I don’t see the point.

So why 3/10 instead of 1/10
The film has high production values. The acting’s ok (I didn‘t think much of the lead police character). Sound is pretty good, meaty at times through the bass speakers. Special FX are well done. It is the idea that sucks big balls. How The Crazies was given the green light remains a mystery. It’s such a dull boring film. I fell asleep less than 40 minutes into the film, and had to return to it another day. Good job I only paid £3 for the DVD which happens to have a neat 3D cover effect, which is a positive.

Timothy Olyphant is terrible in The Crazies. I'm not sure if he simply can't act at all or if the director can't direct actors.

Fell asleep after the incredibly boring first 30 minutes that seemed to go out of the way to make every character an unlikeable American stereotype. Woke up, saw some explosions and turned it off.

Maybe I'll give it another go over the weekend.
Does have a rather boring first half hour but I thought the rest was pretty much great entertainment and lands on the right side of US chest thumping, was just silly and fun without being full on join the Military advertising like Transformers and others. Action is miles better than Transformers, can actually see what is happening. Load the big guns, fuck yeah. There is flag waving but it totally takes the piss which is the best way. From what I remember there isn't any annoying characters which is also good. The film is ridiculous but enjoyable minus the slow start.

The Thin Red Line is pretty much the greatest film ever made, in my opinion. Watching this with a glass of wine or a beer and you are taken somewhere else. The cinematography and music (Zimmer's best work) combined with the prose take it to a level I've never experienced in a movie. This film is set in a war, but it has nothing to do with war.

    The Last Stand - 65%
He might be 112, and have the acting capabilities of a damp flannel, but Arnie still has that something special when it comes to his big screen presence.
It took 10 mins or so to get used to his awful line delivery but once I was settled in I really enjoyed it.
It's not gonna change the world, but it's about as good an Arnie film you're going to get nowadays.

It's a remake of the George A Romero film of the same name.

If you get a chance watch La Jatee. Its only 30 mins long, but it was the film that inspired 12 Monkeys. Its great.

Ditto. Maybe the film caught me in the right (wrong?) mood but I managed to get sucked in and freaked out.

Sinister was a very well made horror until it fucked everything up in the last 15 minutes. Definitely shit me up before it went to shit.

Ironsky 5/10. I had read the reviews before so wasn't expecting much, but didn't think the writing would be that poor. It gets points for making me laugh in the odd place, plus just being wacky, but it isn't something I will watch again. Not shit and I did keep watching, but I cared not for any of the characters and thought the gags could have been stronger in places. I liked the ending.

Indeed it is. I'd like to recommend The Hamster Factor as well. It's a brilliant documentary about the making of 12 Monkeys.

    Predators

First time I've seen this. Weird one this. The team behind it are clearly such fans of the original, and were so keen to throw in quotes and familiar events from the first, that they may as well have gone the whole hog and just done a remake.

As unnecessary as it is it pick plot holes in such films: The parachute entry at the beginning, although cool, actually seemed to go against the honour code of the Predators by maiming their hunt.

It wasn't terrible, but wasn't hugely great either.

Edit: I did like the Yakuza character though: "I talk too much".

    5/10

I can't wait to see this. I do hear the Austrain Oak is a bit rusty in this. I'm sure he'll improve over the next few films. The last 30 mins of this are meant to be awesome.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

His rustyness is only really apparent in the first few scenes, then I'm not sure if he gets a bit better or I just got used to the awfulness :)
The last 30 mins or so are great, there are some pretty groovy/bloody kills. A lot of reviews criticise the first hour, but I still enjoyed that, especially with Whitaker and Stormare hamming it up to the MAX!

    Election

I've seen this so many times now and it still is one of the best comedies I've ever seen.

    9/10

    ---

    La Haine

Annoying try-hard hiphop/gangsta attitudes of all the characters aside, this is one masterfully told tale of crime, vengeance and consequences.

    8.5/10

Take the plastic bag challenge to cure stupidity.

I gave it a smidgeon more I recall (no nun in ten did) due to the 'incredible acting' of the two lead chicks. Shallow? Yes. But it's the truth.

What I would like to know is how someone who has not seen the original would score this?

And if they then went back and watched the original - which would they prefer?

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

    Les Mis 7/10

Good performances and I liked Crowe, even though his style was a little inconsistent with the rest of the cast. I would have liked to see what could be done in a non singing version as the plot is very interesting.
