    End of Watch 8/10

Good cop movie although if you've seen Southland there is little suprise.

+1 for Public Enemy's "Harder than you think" on the soundtrack.

    Easy Rider.

Looking a bit dated, but its last 30 minutes are quite strong. Its oddly lazily labelled as a ideallised waster movie, but it has more in common with the writings of Hunter s thompson than a all out hippy affair. Its more of a mournful look at what could and should have been.

I think the placement of typical hippy tropes doesn't help the film, as Peter Fonda characters decides that 'they blew it', the inclusion of pot smoking, love communes make sense. They had the momentum to change things, but everyone jumped into an idealised hippy viewpoint where nothing was done to challenge the establishment in which in the end wins in this film. The hippys don't win, racial, class issues plight there journey, and all outsiders are denounced in the name of freedom

Its a decent movie. I can understand at the time, this really capturing the imaginations of alot of people. It hasn't aged well in certain places, but theres some very good filmmaking in places. Where you from dude! where you from!

    p.s jack nicholson is awesome.

    Eddie murphy raw - 10/10

Eddie murphy at the top of his game. Funny as fuck. Everyone should watch this (apart from Bill Cosby)

    Alexander - 5/10.

Its coliin farrell going through the static motion of being alexander the great. You get no sense of the person or any understanding of the man. The negative side such as all the tribes he destroyed and marching thousands accross a dessert with huge numbers of fatalities get brushed over with anthony hopkins making it seem ok. Odd film which fails to get accross who he was. The fighting scenes are badly directed and confusing. Very dissapointing.

99 problems and being ginger is one

Fun fact. You can start a fight with almost any Greek guy by saying "Alexander the Great was probably the first great gay icon."

Loved this, but not seen Southland, is it worth a watch? There's about 5 seasons right?

So, exactly how bad is Bleugh as a % ?

Is it higher than "My Eyes! My Eyes!" or lower than "Never Again!"

    Crazy Stupid Love - 6.5/10

The Ryan Gosling pickup artist scenes were amusing, shame they dried up in the second half of the film.

    Ruby Sparks - 6.5/10

Same score but a very different film. I think some folks would be bored but late at night with a beer it caught me in the right mood for some soppy wish fulfilment.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - 10/10

The blu-ray sounds brilliant and it's still one of my favourite films ever.

Complete indifference. It's just.... bleugh. It felt like a shit episode of Pete and Pete.

True enough, it has that quirky not quite our reality vibe like Pete and Pete did. I do really like Safety Not Guaranteed though, easily one of my favourites this year.

It was like Pete and Pete but without the charm is probably the best way I could put it. I respect what it was going for but it just didn't do it for me.

    Starship Troopers 86%
Heard it had some kind of political commentary on US foreign policy.
"It's a good day to die" still the best part.

    Mr. Nobody

Ok so I didn't finish watching it last time. Gf loathed every second of it and asked me to turn it off after an hour and a half.
So I watched the rest of it on my own.
It's actually worse than I gave it credit for.

The visuals are gorgeous and the cinematography is brilliant, yes, but it's an overly sentimental, haphazardly thrown together mess of a film with no continuity (yes that's the point but that doesn't make it any more watchable) and no characters to relate to.

Put Big Fish in a blender with Tree of Life and The Fountain, pour the result into a bowl, then take a huge dump on it, and voilà.

    4/10

    Killer Joe

A pitch black comedy and by far Matthew McConaughey's best performance (not that that's saying much really). Some of it is borderline disturbing but it left me with a smile on my face.

@sirtacos Ha, I was really intrigued about this film and hadn't heard of it...

...after a check on imdb turns out I have actually seen it, and totally forgot. Not a great sign is it :)

Can't really remember much about it, but I can't say I remember hating it either. Felt a bit try-hard and over-long.

    Meh/10

There's three different versions of Alexander, each apparently quite dramatically different. Don't think any are supposed to be amazing, but I think the Directors and Final cuts at least hang together.

Possibly the worst film I can remember seeing. Even the worst of the worst straight-to-VHS nonsense I used to watch at least had the decency to have something noteworthy in it, like gore or nudity or just downright stupidity. This is shit, really shit, and boring. Terrible acting, awful dialogue, endless cliches and an inexplicable fixation on prolonged scenes of banally performed bellydancing. Badly executed and only scores 1 point because it acts as talking point regarding what the fuck happened to Donald Sutherland and Christian Slater's careers.

I don't know what it is about the film that makes me hate it so much. "Try-hard and overlong" is succinct and well-put though.

    Open Your Eyes

Not at all what I was expecting. Very surreal, with good performances and an eerie atmosphere. The concluding 20 minutes are a bit abrupt, but the entire film builds up to them, so it works. Plus Penelope Cruz is in it.

    Hope Springs - 7/10

Lovely little movie about an aging couple (Tommy Lee Jones & Meryl Streep) who are trying to rekindle their lost spirit by visiting a marriage counselor (Steve Carrell). Plenty of awkward scenes. And Meryl Streep is just plain weird with her bizarre facial expressions. But still an enjoyable film.

Open your Eyes is so good. Vanilla Sky is actually a great remake as these things go as well. It's basically identical but with Cameron Diaz is fitter than the Spanish equivalent and it benefits from the bigger budget.

Also there's less of Penelope Cruz's boobs of course, which could well be the deciding factor.

My main memory of Vanilla Sky was liking it but thinking it was far too long. It needed a good editing down and I think it would have improved it a lot.

    The Collector
Watched this again in preparation for The Collection coming out tomorrow.
Still really like it. Unlike other 'torture porn' type movies, it's reigned in, not so gory, and the performances are decent. Great ending too.
