    The Liquidator

Kazakhstan's answer to Jason Bourne, "with" Vinnie Jones.
    Dubbed into English.
Jones says nothing and has the sum total of 10 minutes screen time.
    Almost fell asleep watching this.

    Taken 2/10
Cynical sequel making at its worse. Gets points for making me laugh by giving him his own super hero costume. This film is no better, or different, to that awful film with Henry Cavill in, yet has already made bazillions more.

Oh, now you're really asking for it.

(I didn't think it was awful; would have gone for a 6, possibly a generous 7)

I lol'd at this weeks' Kermode show where someone mentioned the Spotify advert for Taken 2 which says "It's like first film, only worse".

    Ring 0: Birthday - 4/10

    Ringu - 5/10

    Ringu 2 - 6/10

Not really a horror fan and something of a fraidy cat but Japanese ghosties don't frighten me at all. Now on the other hand the Hollywood remake The Ring scared me senseless. No tele in the bedroom for a while after that. Yea.

    Watched The Crow n'all. 10/10

30 hours of pain. All at once. All for you.

    Alien - 9/10
    Aliens - 8/10

Not seen both in ages. Alien has not aged at all, Aliens does look a bit 1980's at times. Also, I noticed that many scenes look literally a lot less "cinematic" than Alien, like it was a (very well-made, obviously) TV film. Not quite sure why that is.

Decent. if you are aquainted with allen ginsberg, theres nothing really new here. Its nice to hear the poem read aloud, by a very good james franco, but you can see hear this for proper online. Its a nice retelling of the idea of censorship on the courtroom side of the case that happened, which is still really relevant in todays society

Animations don't work at all. It was distracting from the poem.

Worth a watch if you are not really aquainted with allen ginsberg or the 'beat' generation. Probably worth a watch if you are as well. But nothing really more than that.

i think the production in both films are brilliant. theres bits in both where it look like it filmed only yesterday.

Aliens was made on something of a budget, iirc. Uses a lot of things like rear projections and other cheap tricks to make it work and get more bang for buck.
  • Deleted user 15 October 2012 15:53:00
It was. Scott got them to double the original budget as well, but it was still comparably low.

Budget for Aliens was high, but Cameron blew it all on steroids and cheesy one-liners for the cast, so the rest is still technically low budget.

I enjoyed it too. The characters are supposed to be unlikeable and its a straight rip off of mission to mars with the 'Alien' thing shoehorned in at the end but in its own right its pretty good sci fi. Don't know what the fuck the ginger beard guy alien mutant thing was all about but I give it a solid 7/10

99 problems and being ginger is one

Before The Devil knows Youíre Dead (2007) 10/10

Philip Seymour Hoffman is excellent, as per usual. The story is just plain entertaining. Two brothers in need of cash, they hatch a plan, or rather Hoffman hatches a plan, it goes horribly wrong. Their lives go from shit to just plain not worth living. Itís all so well acted. The Blu-ray looks great.

@blacksea Quality film - a touch of class from Lumet, directing in his 80s and been directing since the 1950s.

    Prometheus - 5/10

You guys were spot on about this.

Why does no one in the film seem to give a single fuck about anything?

The 2 blokes who were terrified and ran away, in the space of seconds one of them was suddenly a badass mother-fucker and playing with the alien. Not to mention they went back to the room they were afraid of in the first place. And the I-donít-give-a-fuck captain just wasnít around to hear the calls for help? And somehow couldnít listen to their last transmission?

ďOrb detected a life form? Meh, maybe a glitch, I donít give a fuckĒ.

Then thereís the guy-turned-mutant who out of nowhere starts acting like a miserable dick and starts drinking.

Your pregnant-with-octopus woman hits crew members across the head and then they donít bother chasing after her. When they all met again they donít give a fuck about what happened, or even ask why sheís in such a state. She gave birth to a fucking alien, and then doesnít tell anyone about it.

ďYouíre gonna crash our ship into the big fuck-off alien space craft and kill us all? Dude, Iím totally with you!Ē

If there are deleted scenes then they must be hours long because thatís the only way you could explain the pendulum of mood swings these characters possess.

    Snakes on a Plane

Very good, funny and quite gruesome with a completely over the top scenario. All it lacked was Lloyd Bridges as the air traffic controller and it would have been my favourite comedy in years :)

    Live and Let Die 7/10

Roger Moore's first and doesn't quite look entirely comfortable in the role yet. Classic Bond though with great one liners and action scenes. Really liked the music too and Jane Seymour looked stunning.

    Seed of Chucky -

This was a strange on, some funny moments, great performance from Jennifer Tilly. I can't figure out if it was shit or genius.

    In Time - 6/10

A friend lent me this so gave it a watch at the weekend. Wasn't expecting much but it was actually a pretty enjoyable flick. Justin Timberlake exceeded expectations, although admittedly my expectations weren't very high. Presume it didn't get much of a release at the cinema since neither my gf or I had ever even heard of it.

A good yarn with occasional shonky acting/dialog/plot. Worth a watch anyway.
