Late to the party on this, but I thought Cabin in the Woods was fantastic. But then I love The Evil Dead, HP Lovecraft and I'm a nihilistic misanthrope, so this film was practically made for me. In the Venn Diagram of the above, there's an intersection that contains me, that film and probably nobody else.

Avengers Assemble was tedious gash though.

I'm not big in to full-on horror, but I love stuff like Cabin In The Woods, Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell - basically the wussier stuff with comedy in it.

Get Rich or Die Tryin' - 4/10

"I'm a gangster grandpa, and proud of it". Well that's good Fiddy cos you're obviously not a very good actor, even when playing yourself. Found it hard to care that much about the story or characters, all felt a bit forced and OTT, playing to the lowest common denominator stuff. Very superficial, compared with 8 Mile and Notorious which display more realism and depth.

    New Jack City - 8/10

Now this is more like it. Wesley Snipes with a fantastic performance as Nino Brown who is up there with Tony Montana among the most colourful/memorable movie gangsters I've seen; an intriguing combination of intelligence, ruthlessness and ambition. Bit shorter than I expected and the pacing maybe slows a bit in the middle, but still a good watch. Soundtrack is great too.

    Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema - 8/10

Story of a small time hood rising up in pre- and post- apartheid Johannesburg. Interesting to watch a crime movie set outside of the USA/UK. Story was quite good and the criminal enterprise was a bit different and not what I expected it to be.

Rewatched this recently. A slow burning low budget psychological horror film that really provides menace and unease and gets into your head.

    The Hunger Games 68%
Not as bad as I'd been lead to believe.
It's been roundly slated on here from what I recall ("not as good as Battle Royale or Running Man" ), but it sparked some lively discussion with my 11 year old about injustice and fairness. In fact I'd argue it's a far better children's film than either of those.

    No it blooming isn't...!

My friend, whom I am having second thoughts about being friends with, recommend to watch Kill List and The Woman round his one evening ... and so I watched Kill List one month and The Woman the following month.

I genuinely thinking there is something wrong with someone if they 'enjoyed' those films because they are thoroughly horrible films to watch. I openly admit I was genuinely uncomfortable watching them both and if that's what each film were set out to do, then well done, they did.

... but to 'enjoy' them is an impossibility.

    Awful, awful films.

It's a better children's film than Running Man? That's not the hardest argument to make.

    Kill List is brilliant.

Saw a few over the weekend which I'll review later. IMAX Indy, Dredd 3D, The Campaign, Looper and the new Resident Evil.

    Lawless - 6/10.

It's alright. Instantly forgettable stuff though and I can't take that Labeouf kid seriously in anything he's in, which was a big distraction.

    The 5 year engagement. 7/10

Becky chose this; it's reasonable, but spoiled a little by an over-the-top sequence in the middle where the main character goes a little too crazy. Otherwise fairly solid rom-come which achieves its aim of beings ever so slightly edgy.

I watches sky captain and the world of tomorrow the other night, I really quite liked it when it first came out, but it wasn't as much fun this time. 6/10

    Super 8 (US Netflix)

Didn't really do much for me. Start, some kids running around, end.

    Highlander End Game

I have a soft spot for the TV show (I know, I'm a bad man. I like horror films and rubbish TV shows.) so found this mildly entertaining.

A run of the mill hostage rescue film set in the Balkans. Not great, but just about watchable.

    Snuff-Movie (2005) 7.5/10

Itís by the same director (Bernard Rose) as ivans xtc. Itís different. The opening footage is off putting, as it looks amateurish, but its supposed to be, as itís an old film by the director in the film. The film tends to use this idea a lot, different types of quality footage from different sources, cctv cameras, video cameras, high end cameras.

As with ivans xtc, Snuff-Movie isnít for everyone.

What a massive tease you are Master of Beasts!

Look at you and your long tail advertising techniques!

I'd like Dredd 3D and Looper reviews first please :)

    Taken - 10/10

That should wake the thread up.

Looking forward to seeing Looper tomorrow.

    Anyhoo. We Own The Night.

Really boring. It's very rare that I'd turn a film off halfway but I really had zero interest in seeing what happened in this.
    01/10

Also agree with Kill List being awesome.
