    Inside Man

Decent heist flick with some reasonably interesting if slightly lightweight challenges on the whole goodies and baddies thing. Slightly unnecessarily good cast - Jodie Foster and Willem Dafoe are well above their relatively small parts. Denzel was also as ever slightly too Denzelly for his own good. Clive Owen was better than he usually is though. His woodenness suited the role.

Did lol at the blatantly crowbarred in "racial" bits though. Apparently Spike Lee took over from Ron Howard and so blatantly just stuck in a couple of moments where people said racist things, so there could then be a five minute discussion about racial issues before getting back to the film which had nothing to do with racial issues. Transparent as fuck.

But yeah, pretty solid stuff all in all.

    8/10

    Prometheus

Very poor. Messy film with plot holes you could drive a truck through. Extremely unlikeable characters (except David) who show intellect which must surely have made them ineligible for a Trillion dollar space mission (The Geologist/mapping guy gets lost).

    Nice effects though.

    3/10

    Black Gold - 5/10

A good setting/basis for a film, utterly wasted amongst some poor pacing, editing, and script. Once they try to shoehorn in the mini "Lawrence of Arabia-lite" mini plot, which becomes the major arc, all in 15 mins.....pffff. Not much to redeem it, but watchable.

You can read this ? You've helped ruin the place. :(

What's the point it's not out for over a month? Do they do "pre-order" cinema tickets nowadays? Do you get some DLC to :)

LOL! I want to see this opening night and sit in those lovely premium seats. I think the showings will be sold out pretty quick.

Ah I see. Do cinemas still fill out then? I haven't been to one for a few years but generally they were always at least half empty most of the time I can't even remember the last time I saw a packed cinema.

Depend on the film. IMAX was always full for Dark Knight Rises and will be full for Skyfall and the Hobbit I guess. Even during the weekend daytime performances.

OK, thinking about it I do remember a report earlier this year saying cinema going was creeping back up again after many years on the slide.

My method for getting guaranteed seats is seeing the film the day after release.

Dredd - 9/10 As an avid reader of 2000AD when i was growing up this was pitch perfect. Tough, uncompromising and very violent.. Dredd is a hard bastard exactly as he should be. Looks fantastic considering the budget and the 3D is used to great effect. Superb soundtrack, stayed till the end of the credits as loved the music.. just hope they get the chance to make the other 2 movies.

I'm not surprised given the trailer, sad given that Rec 1&2 are some of the best horror I've seen in ages. I've been putting off seeing it myself because I just know it's gonna tarnish my Rec love.

It seems kind of experimental. Its a side story, running parallel in the continuity to the other two and seems to deliberately be nothing like them.

    Safe

Very enjoyable fluff with some cracking action, although The Stath's American accent is really starting to grate on me.

Would also be nice to see him in a film where he isn't ex-special ops, but I guess it's the easiest way to explain away his 1337 skillz.

Yeah that's what I don't get, originally it was pimped as a prequel looking at the priest and the possessed young girl that started it all. Then bam it's trailer hits and it's about a wedding and chainsaws???

Coraline - 7.5/10 - I enjoyed this but it scared the kids! (they are 6 and 4).

Yes it's definitely too scary for young kids, although my 7 year old daughter does have an odd fascination with it.

She wants to watch it even though she knows it'll freak her out as soon as the 'other mother' turns up. I guess she likes testing her own boundaries.

Personally I find the old woman with then the enormous tits horrifying and fascinating in equal measure.

@Blakester I think its because of the "other mother", my kids hate things like that, even Finding Nemo had my boy in tears a year or so back as nemo was separated from his dad.

I was convinced he had given up on the accent by half way through the film.

In doing that they lost everything that made the first two special, I could see what Paco Plaza was trying to do. Shlock/pastiche horror and it just didnt work, there was no tension and no intensity, the "zombies" were slow and ambling as opposed to the fast, wailing ones in the original films. If it didn't have [Rec] in the title then I mightve got more out of it but if you market it as a prequel then you will draw comparisons and it simply doesn't compare.

Oh and how can a film that runs at 70 minutes feel long?

Would've been hilarious if you'd waited for him to calm down only to then tell him he was adopted!!! I'm sure he would've seen the funny side eventually ;D

(Might be a good thing I don't have kids)
