Incredibly slow, without the atmosphere that could have made it worthwhile. Pointless, directionless teen angst love-triangle. The good bits were done a lot better in Battle Royale.

I've seen the trailer and that was enough. It was so bad it actually made me angry and I felt a bit sick afterward.

What a superbly depraved and disgusting film! It totally unsettled me. Love it!
A country lawyer captures and attempts to "civilize" the last remaining member of a violent clan who's been roaming the wild for decades. You know it's going to end badly. You've just no idea it's going to be THAT badly.
This is a slow burner of a film. The film makes it clear from the start that even though this is a seemingly normal family, it's very much far from it. Not so much in they are warped and sick but they are on the verge of breaking point. This is before he captures the woman and once that happens things start to escalate.
It's a bit different from other horror films. The atmosphere of the film in more in line with Blue Velvet or the recent remake of Funny Games than something like The Woman In Black. Just a sense that things are going to get seriously fucked up and that when it does, it's not going to be nice. At all.
When the shocks do happen (and some are genuinely surprising/shocking) they are really effective. It's also not that gory until the last 10 minutes. But it's really, really nasty and realistic.
It's pitch black funny and I found myself laughing at some really horrible things.
One of the best horror films I've seen in ages. Yes, I know I said that about Kill List but I don't think this film will divide people as much as it's more a standard seriously fucked up horror. -

Got utterly bored after about 40 mins and watched the rest in fast forward to get to the 'good' bits. There're aren't any. Avoid. -

Registered 2 years ago@beastmaster : Granted, it's not as good as West's previous film (The House of the Devil, which I enjoyed a lot) but c'mon, it's not that bad... I'm really looking forward to watching V/H/S which he co-wrote and co-directed with a 9 other directors.

An absolutely stunning film that's both incredibly depressing and life affirming at the same time.
It's a love story set against the backdrop of a global epidemic that gradually robs people of their sensory perceptions. First smell, then taste, then hearing etc.
The events in the film are really quite grim but the story focuses on how life goes on despite all of this. Specifically between Ewan McGregor and Eva Green and how they fall in love and persevere though the ensuing chaos of what's going on around them.
This is a really powerful, emotional and moving film. The two main central performances are amazing and really give the film an emotional core.
Just be warned. The film has kind of put me in a really foul mood but the uplifting relationship between the two leads (and the way it finishes) goes some way to negating this. Some. Utterly superb! -

Perfectly entertaining, a bit of a mess plot wise, very confusing and a bit of an odd tempo to the first hour. Once it settles down it all kind of makes sense, well worth watching the others first.
Renner is great, the supporting cast are all good, the action is quite brutal, one part was especially fucking disturbing. Like, how the hell is it a 12A....bonkers.
Main gripe is it just isn't different enough, not sure despite liking it, that it was really all that necessary. -

The storyline is very much open to interpretation. I liked that. Others may not. I felt the titular character's confusion and paranoia quite acutely, which is mostly down to the acting and cinematography, both of which are great. Everything about MMMM, in fact, is pretty damn good. Come to think of it, my score may be a bit harsh. Still, 75% accurately reflects my enjoyment of the movie ('enjoyment' = a term I use loosely given the content). -

Undecided on a score...it's not actually scary. Very well done, shame the camera wobbles about like zebedee is carrying it.
I enjoyed it. I just expected more. The first and last 'tapes' are by far the best. -

Herzog's second attempt at telling the true story of Dieter Dengler (oddly not a porn star), who is shot down and captured in Vietnam. Bale is odd - but that's the character - and Steve Zahn is superb.
Beautifully shot and not nearly as harrowing as some reviews suggest. -

When I was a wee lad, I used to watch this one back to back with Burton's Batman. Adored both films equally and I still do. Sure, it's flawed but I really don't understand the 6/10 on imdb, it deserves more.
Glenne Headly's fekkin' gorgeous and the whole film is a looker as well. Why Dick Tracy hasn't seen a blu ray release yet is beyond me...

Brilliant tone and atmosphere. Brando is superb in his role as Don Corleone and is backed up brilliantly by Pacino. A film that I will never bore of.
Godfather Part II - 10/10
One of my all time favourites. Michael's descent into evil is brilliantly done, but is still outshined by the fantastic flashback scenes that look into the origins of the Corleone empire. A timeless classic.
Godfather Part III - 7/10
An ageing Michael trying to redeem himself and right the wrongs of the past sounds decent in theory, but the implementation is very hit and miss and in the end falls a bit flat. The far fetched and massively convoluted plot that helps string this along doesn't help either, but it is still far from unwatchable. -

Registered 8 years ago@repairmanjack If only that film had ended when Bale got picked up by the chopper. The whole welcome back party at the end was nauseating. I honestly thought they were all going to start bumming each other.
Actually I did not like the film much before that either due to another funny Bale accent/performance but the end was the final nail in the coffin. -

I'd give Martha Marcy May Marlene 8/10 - a real insight into cults, borrowing heavily from the literature on the Manson family. The Olsen girl is beautiful and John Hawkes is even more terrifying than in Winter's Bone.

The Source Code
2/10. Awful through and through. A silly premise, a film that does not make nearly enough of that silly premise to warrant it, an insufferable plot and ending.
Cynical cash-grab to profit from the buzz around at least reasonably entertaining films like Inception. -

Holy shit what a fucked up film! My problem with it is that it peaks too soon with those 'other people' and then its a prolonged sequence of a slide into depravity which is fine....but too fucking long. It then damages the impact of the ending as it becomes an an ti climax plus the endin g is a bit shit anyway. surely she would have seen some od the ET tunnels and that99 problems and being ginger is one

Not his best work, but fairly decent. Some of the gags fall a bit flat and others don't.
It will probably get slated on here though. -
