    @Gregolution

    There are actually quite a few very good dice based euros. They tend to be based around player directed dice based manipulation rather than random luck though.

    First brief go at Robinson Crusoe; didn't have time to really go through it all as we were learning. It looks complicated, for sure, but actually it's pretty logical and well structured. You can set things up and learn as you go - make sure players are a bit patient tho. I can see how it becomes complex as it progresses  when you have a thousand things going on.

    Not quite sure why I might need certain items that we could build (e.g. shovel) but maybe that's the point and I'd have found out later.

    The plan to curb spending on board games is off to an excellent start - that's Fog of Love and Century: Spice Road bought.

    @FWB

    You need to build the shovel first so that you can, for example, build the cellar. It depends a bit on the items drawn during setup.

    Yes. It's borrowed from a bunch of other great games and combined all the mechanics into a super attractive, super well produced, package.

    It is a bit slow though. It will take a while before you even have the option of messing with your opponents. You definitely need to enjoy games that are about thinking three moves ahead.

    It's more fun in the second act (of three) where others can lay waste to your plans, so that you have to adapt.

    Even better in the final act where that lovely euro "please do not trigger the final round before I can do two more turns" urgency sets in.

    I played shadespire last night. Really enjoyed it. Very much like battle lore, but with a few better design ideas like changing objectives. It was our first play, so took us far longer to complete as we had to look up rules for cards and such, but I think it is actually a very quick game. The contents are lovely though, the boards and miniatures are great.

    Looking forward to playing it again. I'm going to pick up a copy myself, so we can play it with 4 people.

    @ZuluHero Shadespire is great. I picked it up on a whim and after playing it, five of my friends picked up their own copy of the game. None of them are even usually miniature-hobbyists, so this is a perfect gateway-game. :)

    It's very well priced imo which lowers the bar to new players. The core gives you plenty and you don't need anything else, but the expansions are also nicely priced. Something you don't usually expect from GW.

    Games are quick once you know the rules and cards.

    Yeah it's not bad at all! Don't think I'd recommend the 4 player though. Think that mode is a bit tacked on.

    Also get some new warbands. The skeletons are most interesting imo.

    @Gregolution that's a shame, but at least we could do 2 simultaneous games at once :)

    That's how we do it. We play two games at the same time, we get to swap players as well.
    Haven't even tried the 4 player variant yet.

    Another cracking game of Scythe this afternoon. My eldest beat both my and my wife! He was getting frustrated losing all the time and I gave him a couple of tips about trying to keep as many coins as possible and also use his workers more efficiently.... I think I gave him too much information. He's a monster now.

    Beat me by 30 points!

    Have ordered the big board extension now. I've had so much fun with the game, at this point, I'm all in.

    I played half a game, just to learn the rules, of Castles of Burgundy yesterday.

    I can see why it's high up on GBB, but omg what an ugly, unappealing package. Flimsy cardboard and tiny washed out graphics. I don't think that would stand a chance had it been released today.

    Love CoB but yeah, so ugly. Top of the 'needs a deluxe version', i'd buy it in a heartbeat!

    Imagine a deluxe version by Ian O'Toole (The Gallerist, Lisboa etc). With some chunky cardboard stock and spiffy new iconography.

    OR go all the way over the top with little minis. O.o

    For sure. Here's the only one that... Actually no. He's one of two* artists/graphic designers that have made me look up who they are.

    Then again, I haven't played that many games. But it's quite an accomplishment to make me interested in a game just because who is doing the graphics.

    *Jakub Różalski of Scythe fame is the other one.

    That's the one mate, yeah. Seemed a bit more modern than Blood Bowl (I guess it should do really) and a bit more user friendly. Nice 2 player starter set out for 45 quid. Only really heard good things about it.
