I reckon most people buy from online sellers and only more hardcore gamers go to specialist shops. The store I go to continues to exist as its a cheap packing and distribution location for the online stuff. The retail sales are a side operation in comparison. I've gone from 100% retail buying to about 75% online buying over the last 5 years.

Waterstones (a large bookseller) has been selling more mainstream games over the last few years so a lot of people probably get into that way.

But that's as much to do with store business I think. Even the store itself should probably be geared as much towards table space and cafe service as it is stock for purchase.
Ah, yes. Clever. In the coming workd with drones customers could buy a game that's "In store" and have a cup of coffee and a game of... something quick while the physical copy is being flown in from the warehouse.

The guy also said that the online sales had the worst margin. DHL taking their cut, payment provider taking their. I said they should do the click and collect thing and he was well aware.

Again, if anyone missed it, Ghost Stories (frequently featured in the background of "boardgamer talking infront of his game shelf" videos) is back in circulation.

Known as a challenging but fun co-op game. Made by the guy who also made 7 Wonders

Battlestar Galactica with six players last night. Demands that all players pay attention to what's going on, but when it works it's one of the best hidden traitor games out there, IMO.

@Tonka I bought it 2nd hand for £5 above retail price, a week before it was announced that a reprint had been done....
Thought I found a bargain at the time, still, got it now with the white expansion

Ghost Stories is good fun but super challenging. Be prepared to lose very often. The rules aren't great although perhaps the reprint has sorted them out.

@DevilsKebab is it any good though?

I'm not over the moon about Samurai Spirits. Although to be fair, the mechanic in that is much, much simpler, and I haven't played with more than three players. It handles up to seven.

Hope no one minds me peddling my wares, but thought I’d just stick these up in case anyone was interested. New year, new me and all that, but more importantly shelf space is at an all-time premium and these just don’t get played enough.

All are in perfect nick. Card is punched obvs, but everything is completely wear free and generally all baggied up and shiny. I’ll calculate postage accurately if sold, but last time I did this it wound up being around the £3-3.50 mark most of the time.

Descent 2nd Edition + Lair of the Wyrm Expansion - £50
    Battlelore 2nd Edition - £40
    Myth - £35
    Mage Knight - £35
    City of Remnants - £30
    City of Horror - £25
LoTR LCG Core Set - £20
Pathfinder ACG Rise of the Rune Lords plus 2 small expansions – £20
    King of Tokyo - £15
Warhammer 40k Conquest LCG Core Set + 3 small exp packs - £15
    Among the Stars – £20
    Rivet Wars - £25
    Kaos Ball - £25

Let me know if anything takes your fancy. Gracias.

    @Tonka It's good, but tough.
It takes quite a few play-throughs to get a strategy.
So depends if you enjoy a punishing game or not

@DevilsKebab what are the odds of winning once you get a fair grip on the strategy?

I'm all for tough games but I want to be able to reach at least a one in third chance of winning.

GS uses dice which can make it quite swingy. You have to learn how to mitigate the roll of the die.

Easily the best. I'd played a few others and they where rubbish in comparison. Did you have the Pegasus expansion too?

I haven't played Scythe in a while and I really miss it. Very good blend of solo fiddling with your engine and surprisingly intense player interactions.

The way battles are over in a heartbeat (once the cards are revealed) really tickles my fancy. Endless chucking of dice whilst looking at your forces slowly dwindling away isn't as fun (for me).

There's an unofficial one over at BGG. Looks like you need an expansion for it though

I like the tense of rolls and the added luck element but yeah, lots of calculations are a pain. Biggest gripe with Rebellion. In Twilight Struggle it's perfect. Only ever one dice and you know exactly what you need to succeed beforehand.

Having read the Scythe rules, it does actually seem quite cool. Particularly the way conflict is to be avoided.

I've been watching Rahdo run through Western Legends and it looks like a lot of fun. Not very heavy but with cool mechanics and absolutely steeped in theme.

Not too expensive either at $60

Think it's time to pull the trigger on Gaia Project and get 2018 purchases started.

Been into board games for a year now and come to the realisation I don't like RNG much. Dice are a huge turn off and really serious euros like terra mystica and Gaia project make me seriously happy.

I can handle a decent amount of randomisation if the puzzle created is very interesting - prime example Dragonfire. But when I get the feeling a game is playing me rather than the other way around , it goes in the bin.
