I've just ordered Zombie Dice (and the expansion) and Get Bit using an Amazon voucher given to me by my work colleagues.
Both quick games I believe. Hopefully simple enough and fun enough to play with a 5 y/o and the missus when we're on holiday.

@cubbymoore Depends what you mean by fucking each other over. There are games where you are directly in conflict like, say, Spartacus. There is the really nasty like in Diplomacy or Intrigue, where you have to work together but compete at the same time; backstabbing, but it's not for everyone. Then the slightly lighter type of skulduggery such as Cosmic Encounter. Then there are lots of games where the conflict is competing for space or actions and you compete by blocking etc.

I would recommend Libertalia for sticking it to each other without offending too many people. Innovation works well in 2 player - any more than 2 and its chaos. I quite like Condotierre for light screwage as well.

Not a boardgame, and (very) light, but Munchkin fits that bill perfectly. Not sure how great it plays with only two people, though.
Munchkin just doesn't work with two, be warned - I wish it did.

Maybe try Innovation. Will play to four but is at its best at two, and is just a constant festival of "fuck you" moves. I'm not a huge fan, as it's very chaotic, but others love it.

Tried Blood Bowl: Team Manager for the first time last night. Not only would that fit the bill, if you're ok with the fantasy theme, but it's actually excellent in its own right. They really captured the spirit of the original board game.

Cubby, have a look at Claustrophobia, whilst its still in print. Perfect head to head game, serves two, and you can finish a game in forty five minutes.

Oddly, bgg feedback suggest its great for couples.

I got the free app on my iPhone and it was absolute dogshit. I've heard quite a few people talk about this, but I really fail to see why it's any good? Anyone else played it?

What about Citadels cubby? Certainly 1 on 1 I found it becomes a pretty evident screw-a-thon.

    /and Claustrophobia

    My wallet hates this thread.

Check this out, though - a board game you want SO badly - but can never have:

Nnnrghh. I really want this and it's 12.70 on Book Depository at the moment. Absolute bargain but I've sworn not to buy anything else for the foreseeable future :/

Citadels is good, but my lunchtime group struggle to get a game finished within an hour. I think we made a mistake shuffling in all of the extra district cards from the expansion.

Another +1 for Libertalia here. We've played it a fair but recently and everyone likes it.

Anyone play 6Nimmt? A simple card placing game. Works best with 5 or 6 players .

I really like Citadels with 2 players. The fact that you get 2 roles makes for some interesting, tactical decisions.
@Alastair I think that you are only meant to add 2-3 of the extra district cards. There is info in the rulebook about incorporating the expansion
It plays quite quickly with 2 or 3.

Citadels is ordered! Cheers Tomo. I'll see how that goes down before thinking about anything else.

Yeah, I think I need to take 10 mins to go through the deck and take most of em back out.

@Alastair Just checked and it says add 2-3 of the districts. Any more and you should remove the old ones on a 1 for 1 basis.

I've never bothered with the alternative roles. Do you use them? Which do you swap out?

I've never tried the alt roles either, would be interested on any thoughts.

Great game, cubby you've got the bargain of the century there.

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

Wish the cards were a little higher quality though, mine are already bedraggled having played in humid Fiji.

@speedofthepuma Just casually mentioning having played in Fiji doesn't give you any kudos in this thread. You name dropper, you.

    :)

Edit: Oh, and I've sleeved the role cards as they get constant shuffling and any marks might give things away. Not bothered with the buildings though.

We try to randomise the alternate roles. They are all pretty good from memory. Not played it in a while. Only one we haven't used is the Queen.

And I have sleeved the character cards as well.

So, played 2 player and 3 player 7 Wonders now. Nice little game, seems impossible to explain, but when you play it, you quickly get it.

Also played 3 or 4 games of Pandemic. Really like this, although we have won every game, perhaps time to increase then epidemic cards, although I feel like we might have been lucky and I'm scared.

Carcassonne is fantastic, squeezing in a quick game with Ben before work is great.

Awaiting Letters from Whitechappel, Love Letters and Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective..

Looking for more 2 player games I can play with Ben, any thoughts?

Had my finger over buy on game of thrones last night, dispute buying Love Letter, Onirim ;"(which is a really nice solitaire game) and Letters to Whitechapel this week. And loads of sleves for smash up. Oh and he smash up expansion (which adds a lot to game. Also smash up! Is actually really fun at 2 players!)
