How do online games work, do you need to have the board set up at home and then email other players to tell each other your move and to do the diplomacy part? Are there any websites which make it easier to play online?

Would anyone be interested in setting up an EG game of this? I think it's a 7 player game...

Taught the kid London and Castles of Burgundy this pm; she won the first, I brought home the latter. I know this goes against the grain of BGG, but I far prefer the Martin Wallace game to Feld's dice-chucker. CoB is a good game, but I find it a little dry and it just paralyses everyone with options and the minutia of scoring.

May have another crack at the lesser-known Wilderness tomorrow. Lot of fun in a survival/race mechanism.

@andytheadequate You don't need any board. Just the web site I linked. The moves are all resolved on there. You can message the other players through the website to discuss the meta etc or email if you have their addresses. Christ, I've even phoned people just before the deadline to sort things out.

Ultimately you have to post your finalised moves before a deadline and the rest is worked out for you and a new map is updated and displayed.

That does sound fun. Anyone else up for it? I could probably convince a few to play it...

    Right then.

Sign up to game no 58422. EG Trainer Game. I'll send each of you the password as a pm.

Everything had been set up for a move a day so you're in this for the long haul. That said, if we all get our orders in before the deadline the turn will progress so we can speed things up - especially for build and retreat.

Lets use the diplomacy in game messaging boards for our wheeling and dealing. Starting countries are random.

I wish you all good luck and would like to maintain close political friendships with you all.

P.S. I have one other EG player who would like a game. He'll take first reserve if one of the places above becomes free.

Got hold of Forbidden Island for me and the wife. Apart from Zombie Dice this is the first "non Monopoly" game type we've tried. Will let you know how we get on but I already like the tiles!

Speaking of ZD has anyone bought the expansion dice?

Ok, got a few hours. Undecided on learning Eclipse or having another bash at Arkham Horror. Or maybe Robinson Crusoe (which at least allows for terrible "I'll be fucked by friday" gags).

Joined the game. Waiting for 3 more players which gives me time to read the rules.

Filip. Do you want to start a new thread so we don't clog this one up?

Yeah, start a new thread. I'll join the game later this afternoon. Did you invite acid snake? I'll give him a prod if he hadn't already joined...

Rules look straightforward. I guess the actual game is in the player interaction.

I can see why this game would work well online, as resolving the orders looks like it would be a nightmare IRL

I'm being a bit thick, I can't figure out how to join the game...

Ignore me, figured it out now.

Edit- I've created a separate thread for this...

Did you guys fill the game up? If not, I'd love to play.

Edit - just seen the other thread.

If you wait a week or two, there's an iOS version of Eclipse coming out which will have a full tutorial, might be easier to hold off till then?

Eclipse isn't too difficult to learn, but I would say it's best off learned as part of a group during actual play due to the mechanics of it.

Unless of course you're going to be boardgaming in a group today.

You got Robinson Crusoe?! Where'd you manage to get that? I really like the look of it.

I liked it myself but my gf didn't... she doesn't really get the non-competitive aspect at all. A shame really.

I picked it up just after Essen from www.boardgameguru.co.uk (got the promos included too). It's the first edition, which sold out almost immediately; the reprint is coming through the US, but it seems to keep getting delayed. Was supposed to be out by now, but looks like it got bumped back until the summer.

It's worth the wait; an unbelievably good game. Bastard hard though.

    Ohhhh.

I literally just found a copy of Crusoe on BGG, and have ordered. This is a fucking expensive new hobby. Jesus :x

It really is! I'm now in the process of having to get the expansions for Carcassonne on a weekly basis, at the insistence of my gf and other friends. We've now got a group of five of us who are addicted to it, and this weekend I've bought myself a wooden box that looks like a big book (looks really really nice, I might try and post a few pictures of it) to keep all of them together rather than having to carry several boxes about.

    It's a nice hobby though :)

Played 7 wonders and Lords of Waterdeep on Saturday - both our game group's go to games as they're both ace.

Also played a game called Wiz War, which is kinda like a PvP game; wizards battling out in a maze, fast, aggressive and loads of fun. I want to play that again!

@ZuluHero How long do games of Lords of Waterdeep take?
I'm generally interested in games that take under an hour as I predominantly play at lunch times. I have LoW on my Amazon wishlist as I like the sound of it.

Not as nice as I used to be

It can be pretty fast depending on how well people know the game. Our games last about an hour and a half, there are 4 of us, and mainly because I take ages working out my moves :p.

Its only and 8 round game, but it slows down at round 4 or 5 as you get an extra piece each, so instead of 2 turns a round you get 3. But once you know what you're doing it's pretty quick.

I think you could drop that to an hour easy.
