Whatever happened to normal games, anyway? Even monopoly has experience and levelling up your playing piece now, and apparently there's a version of Cluedo that has dice-based combat. Whatever happened to just a nice game of Trivial Pursuit?

I got my son a copy of Burg Appenzell (Chateau Roquefort / Cheese Castle) for Christmas. Having played a few games with him and the missus and then today with a couple of the gaming group in the office I have to say it's jolly good.
The Boy loves the sliding part of the game and as an adult gamer I like the attack and mempry elements.

    Anyone tried Risk Legacy?

Our group is thinking about investing in a copy...

If anyone has tried Redacted on iOS, how does it compare to CAH? They seem pretty similar.

I wonder how many sales CAH miss out on simply because they never seem to print enough copies.

Had the daughter to stay for a couple of days - she's already a confirmed gaming addict too. Ran through some games of Stone Age, Lords of Waterdeep and Dominion. Good times.

People seem to slate Dominion a lot these days; I can only assume it's down to playing it to death. It's an excellent game.

My word that makes Risk Legacy sound amazing. I'd love to have a crack at that.

I played Mage-Knight last night, what a complicated game! Enjoyed it, but i think its going to take a while to get used to all the rules.

Got two expansion packs for Lord of the Rings Card Game - Kazad-dum and The Hobbit: Overhill and Underhill for Christmas. Haven't tried either yet but they look great. Anyone else played these?

Also, anyone interested in a digital version of Talisman should check it out in Steam's Greenlight system. Multiplayer board gaming loveliness coming this Summer.

Picked up a cheap copy of Forbidden Island. My daughter's only 6 but picked up Escape easily enough so I'm hoping she can grasp this one too.

Nice set though, especially considering the price

Cards Against Humanity went down amazingly. Interestingly, there was a clear winner. And a clear loser, too! Everyone loved it. One of the great joys was someone picking up a card and giggling to themselves as they read it. V. Funny.

We played Civ after. No one knew the rules and it dragged a bit. A clear winner from the start. A little dull. Might play it again. Probably won't.
Got wiped out by flooding. Felt pretty deflated.

Currently working my way through the rules to the Twilight Imperium (3rd ed.) I got for 5 quid at a jumble sale last year. It sounds brilliant but I fear I'll have an extraordinarily hard time convincing any of my mates to give it a shot. :/

Supposed to be one of the great games (although I'll never forgive them for what they did to Avalon Hill's 'Dune'). Wish I had five boardgaming friends and five free hours, would love to try it.

Yeah - mint condition as well, all the cards and counters packed in their own Ziploc bags. Got History of the World and Fury of Dracula for a fiver each as well - the latter is great fun (haven't tried HotW yet).

Think it was a mother selling off her son's old stuff - in any case she was thrilled to see it go. Bagged a very nice copy of HeroQuest for 7 quid on another occasion - jumble sales FTW! :)

Jesus, jumble sales in the UK need a bloody overhaul. Fantastic finds, Phage. Fury of Dracula (assuming it's the later edition) is fantastic. I've been looking at TI3 despite knowing, in my heart of hearts, I'd almost never get to play it. (See also Space Empires: 4X.)

Got the missus into a game of Stone Age tonight, at her request. I don't think I've heard "Why?" so many times in an hour since my daughter first learned to talk.

I hate teaching rules to people.

Err... that sounds like THE worst way to try and play Civ - no wonder you didn't enjoy it :/

It is a long game, even with the rules down, but interested to know how you had a clear winner from the start. Most players should be able to achieve a Tech victory in 15 or 16 turns even if you start out with another path and swap to Tech halfway through.

I like Dominion. Got the Intrigue version/expansion for Christmas and played it for the first time today.
Dominion is one of those games I think I am bored of, then after a break we play it again and I remember that it's really really good!

Have tried to introduce some of the committed boardgamers to old skool D&D, but they can't get to grips with the lack of board. I think we'll give it one more go with some figures and a drawn map - might help them a bit...

@phAge Be warned that it's the sort of game that can eat a whole day.
And it can be pretty hard for people to recover if hit badly early on - giving maybe 1 or 2 people little to do for the long hours ahead...

Get settlers of Catan instead - at least you get the fun of asking if anyone has 'Wood' for 'Sheep'
