Pretty simple question, really. For me, it's a tie-up between NYPD Blue and Homicide: Life on the Street, with a notable mention to The Wire.

First person to mention The Bill gets mercilessly shunned, by the way.

After watching Season One on DVD last week I must agree that The Shield is the best.

    The Wire.

Followed closely by The Wire, with a notable mention to The Wire.

(Ok, Homicide is second, followed by Heartbeat!)

The Wire, followed by The Shield. Love both, really, for different reasons, but The Wire is just a better show, ultimately.

The first series was good, it got shit after that.

    CSI: Miami

Actually, the Shield. I haven't yet watched The Wire. I have season 1 on DVD sitting nearby, but I want to wait for the right time to start watching it, as it sounds like I'll be so engrossed I'll want to speed through it in preference to other stuff I need to do.

    Definitely Due South.

Does The Detectives count? I remember that being pretty funny.

I haven't watched it all myself. Genius, but sitting through the whole thing in one sitting would make me insane(r).

Has to be The Sweeney... this was when men were real men and wore cheap tan leather jackets, big glasses, action slacks, smoked and drank whiskey and said "Guvn'r" a lot.
