Some kind of poster with jokes about George Bush is a must. You don't even need to know anything about politics - just say "LOL, he can't pronounce nuclear and has monkey facial expressions".

Quite interesting to see the reply from some people here actually. Wasn't expecting this to be received the way it did. My room does have posters of bands and a couple of games to, so its not just a whorehouse. Maybe having 12 posters is an exageration but is having 6 over the room that bad? (Their not all your stereotypical chav picture either, some are really quite artsy).

On campus i've been to quite a few different rooms and virtually every room owned by a male has them. Does that make us all immature and chavs? I think some of you may be taking this presumption a tad to far. At the end of the day all they are are wall fillers to get rid of that empty space, and to hide the cracks in the wall.

When I was a bachelor, I had the following on my walls

    1) Huge poster of Madeleine Smith / Ingrid Pitt from "The Vampire Lovers"
    2) Geeky poster of Gillian Anderson with wet hair, looking slightly weepy.
    3) Several Hajiime robots.
    4) A sodding huge painting I'd done myself of a large breasted woman draped over a mech.

Soon as I started going out with my missus / got married, these were all destroyed.

    ;_;

Heres a hint: Real girls dont like posters of airbrushed women as it gives them a complex.

When I was a swinging singleton I had one wall covered in a mosaic of 12" record sleeves and, the most potent weapon in my arsenal, a big poster of Debbie Harry in her prime.

Every woman loves Blondie and I havent met one yet that doesnt look up to her as a role model. As a talking point on the road to lovin', I dont think it ever failed.

What you really need to do is stick posters of pretentious movies on the wall, so it makes you look like you're really intellectual and attractive, and appreciate culture.

Y'know the sort of stuff. Annie Hall, Betty Blue, Manon Des Sources.

Oh and of course that shot of Mr Darcy crawling out of the pond with a wet shirt on. Chicks really dig on that shit.

    Idolising Debbie Harry?

Make sure you've got a Simpsons/Family Guy/South Park poster up there somewhere, you want to be seen to have a sense of humour.

Ah. Thought Oxford would have been a bit too... 'up-market' for some of the posters that get sold.

Never underestimate the appeal of appearing to rough it.

I live in Oxford too and, yeah, they are like any other students except far more annoying.

Hence my comment about pretentious film posters.

S'funny though, when I was at college you could more or less guarantee that either sex would have at least one of the following in their room

    1) Betty Blue poster
    2) Blues Brothers poster
    3) Rocky Horror Picture Show poster
    4) Pulp Fiction / Reservoir Dogs poster
    5) Assorted David Lynch film posters (usually Eraserhead)
    6) Smiths album cover posters
    7) Levellers Album Cover posters
    8) The The - Mind Bomb posters

Heh. When I was a young lad I had that poster of Sean Yseult from White Zombie on my wall that most folks had, an Iron Maiden poster and several other metal posters. :)

    I'm a grumpy bastard.
