How is the weather there back in 2006?
Nearly all sites work with IE.
The same can't really be said with any of the other browsers,VR Guff: www.roadtovr.com (NEW site now live!)

Registered 7 years agoI'm pretty sure FF and IE (online banking seems to only ever fucking work with IE) are about the same in % these days. -

Registered 8 years agoFirefox, its the first thing I install on a new computer/fresh install. The only site I've come across these days that wont work is the player on the ITV site.
I may try Opera again one of these days but I've got FF just how I like it and has many extensions i find very useful. Like Foxmarks for keeping bookmarks synced between three computers, which also run different OS. -

Are you using the official Mac port of Firefox? It has traditionally been really shit. They fixed some bits of it in version 2.0 but it still does leak memory. Though not quite as badly as Safari. I'm only up to 600MB after 24 hours. And I use an unofficial Intel optimised build, which does slightly better than the official release from my experience. See here.
Heh. I wondered why my machine was so slow once and found that Firefox was consuming 4GB of memory! Mind you, it had been on for a few months. And the code I'm working on right now leaks memory at a prodigious rate. So I can't talk. -

I completely fail to see the point of Opera, beyond the fact that you can preview pages by hovering over tabs and see links by hovering too.
Apart from these two things it seems identical to Firefox, but slower and less reliable.
Opera is always the first browser to have exactly the useful features people later copy for FF, but in one neat package, no need to constantly update the features, and it also definitely is not slower or more unreliable for me.
FF always feels like a similar, but clunky and a lot less elegant browser to me in comparison. I've made at least 5 attempts (for a week or so) to use FF, but I always returned to Opera. Unless you desperately depend on some of the downloadable enhancements, I see no point in using FF. Spybot also always finds crap after I use FF, something that never happens with Opera.
Well, you did kind of ask..gif)
edit:
I am using Opera, to actually reply to the thread, in case that wasn't clear.
One other thing I love about Opera is how it integrates so many useful little things into the one application, like RSS feeds, a notepad thingy, an irc client etc. and all without ever having to add any extensions. -

Registered 11 years agoOpera is hands down the best now.
It's faster, more secure, more customisable, more feature rich, doesn't need any of the myriad extentions you have to keep track of with FF, has a good email client, ad blocker, spell checker, etc.
I find it as reliable as IE now.+1 / Like / Tweet this post

Natwest online banking works fine with Safari, I use it all the time.
Some sites (like NatWest online banking) don't get on so well with Safari

Also my favourite browser, although some sites I find are still incompatible, but that's not Opera's fault, it's lazy dev's and shortcut coding.

It's great.
And I have no idea what some of you are talking about with Firefox, it's slow as hell in comparison to opera. -

Registered 10 years agoFirefox. I was looking to bail out to one of the other browsers as FF's memory consumption was excessive and it would lock up regularly. Instead i trimmed a few extensions, no difference. I changed my Tabbed Browsing add-on and "Bingo!".
Use FF? Play with different add-ons, some of the obscure ones are much better than popular others..gif)
I really dislike the IE7 interface even tweaked like mine is so i only use it when windows demands i do.This signature intentionally left blank.

Had to use FF the other day for a site that wasn't compatible with Opera, and was stagggered at how slow it was. -

Registered 7 years agoI use safari mainly and firefox for the odd site that doesnt support a lot of apples terrible standards.
I dunno....I used to care, but in my old age, i have stopped really giving a shit about which browser is the best. As long as it gets me on the internets, im not really bothered.
Although, I have to say, the thing that still bothers me is using someone elses computer with IE and finding half the screen taken up by random spyware toolbars.
Then you uninstall half of them, thinking you are doing them a favour, then they complain that half their shitty MSN emoticons dont work...---------------------------------------------------------

From a technology perspective they've just made everything else look like a dinosaur. I feel sorry for the IE8 dev team
Not sure about the interface but really looking forward to giving it a go tomorrow. -

Registered 10 years agoI'll stick with IE for now, it does all that I require for a browser.
Always dislike FireFox as it was a slow buggy mess, I'm sure it's better now but I'm happy with the browser I have.
Opera is ok, I have to use it for some Wii based development, but it's no better than IE so hasn't encouraged me to jump ship. The Cult of Me [ Blog ] [ e-book ] [ An Odd Quartet ]

basically an amazing engine under the hood, but as far user features goes isn't too dissimilar from safari or ie8.
