Disney films are guilty of much worse racial stereotyping than Jeremy Clarkson could muster.

clarkson just another expression of the graysy keysy anti-PC "banter" culture that sees you as the problem if you object to someone else making a racist, sexist, or homophobic joke

Odd thing is that it's only in this country that Clarkson is analysed and criticised in this way. I'm not aware of any uproar in any other country for the things he's said. Just this country. It's as if we hold ourselves to far greater account than anyone from anywhere else. That may not be a bad thing, but there's something absurd about how British newsmedia respond to Clarkson. It's as if he's far more guilty of being Clarkson the popular personality, than he is of what he says.

That old saying about people and the company they keep.
There was a paragraph in this Guardian article that made me smile.

"Downing Street condemned any use of the word, saying that David Cameron a friend of Clarkson's would "certainly not" use it."

I find it pretty ironic when I read statements like this. You're (presumably in jest) suggesting that we should kill someone who makes 'jokes' which you think go too far and are a bit racist.

You're absolutely as bad as him.

May is the most tolerable, the other 2 are simply unbearable IMO.

What do you find offensive about Hammond? Did they do an episode where they launched a caravan full of Wiis into a reservoir?

Clarkson is just your typical obnoxious right wing middle class twat who genuinely believes the world revolves around him, and so hates anything that doesn't directly benefit him.

Hammond is just a bit spineless. He sits there giggling at Clarkson's jokes, leeching off his popularity and chipping in the odd borderline righty comment to look cool.

I don't mind May but again, he sits in Clarkson's slipstream which also makes him a cunt.

Steve Coogan's article on them last time it all kicked off was on the money.

What I find more annoying about Clarkson is his army of defenders who roll out every time he does something wrong, you know, those people who actually buy his bile inducing books...

They seem to believe he is some kind of spokesman for modern man. When in fact he is just a spoilt little Tory who is under the false impression that his opinions are actually relevant.

I don't really think that's a fair assessment of RH, he's a successful dj in his own right and has his own calender which I understand is very popular.

Wow. I think some of you are seriously a bit unhinged about Clarkson!

I won't defend everything about him - I don't like his ridiculous pretence that climate change isn't happening, and he definitely oversteps the mark with his humour (especially when it comes to 'edgy comments' about race and other nations), but I suspect some of you don't actually read very much what he writes. I've not kept up with his columns since the Times went behind a paywall, but unless he's completely changed in the meantime I suspect he's a lot more lefty and liberal than you seem to realise ... he's also genuinely very funny on occasion.

Plus, despite it's occasional missteps Top Gear remains one of my favourite TV shoes, and this is largely down to Clarkson. So IMO, he's doing something right at least...

P.S. It's slightly weird how many people who HATE Clarkson (and Top Gear) are posting in a thread about ... Top Gear. :-P
