Quite liked the idea of the OAP car but not how long it went on, I thought I'd be collecting my pension before it finished it dragged so much.

The army monster truck doesn't seem like too practical an idea either, "we can send supplies to the front without risking anyone!" So it gets disabled with a cheap RPG-7 and the enemy gets lots of supplies without risking any of their men either, oh.

    This space left intentionally blank.

I suspect it will have a sizeable dollop of self destruct mechanism on it.

So the enemy keeps disabling them, they blow up and the supplies still don't get to the front.

Yeah, it would be much better to send soldiers into a situation where trucks keep getting repeatedly blown up.

I enjoyed that and I don't get the point of that self driving truck either. If your sending your supplies to troops at the frontline your going to defend them anyway which means you need ground troops so why do you need a self driving truck? The only place this would actually be useful is in areas that are already secure and in those places it's still going to be cheaper to just hire a normal driver.

I really cant see how this is such a difficult concept to understand.

IF the trucks keep getting blown up the supplies won't get through either, so what's the point in sending the trucks?

IEDs blow up a truck full of supplies, send another truck full of supplies. IED blow up a manned truck full of supplies, send another truck full of supplies and start writing letters to widows or grieving parents.
There's a point to self-driving trucks if they can get them working properly.

Im sure they wouldnt keep sending them like a trench war of attrition. Just through places known to be dangerous that may be under fire.

You don't have to send the trucks alone.

Send them with a couple of tanks or some air cover. Supplies in autonomous vehicles yet still protected from attack.

Good episode I thought, though elements of the OAP section made me cringe. Also, it WOULD be an episode where they were particularly rude about other countries driving when I introduce the show to a German.

Still, I enjoyed it (and I can see the point of the army truck and thought it was amazing)

It doesn't make sense to send a self driving vehicle with laden with critical supplies into a dangerous area without some form of ground support and if it has ground support what's the point in it being self driving?

It's just a technology proving testbed. I doubt it has real world applications as it stands, for the reasons you stated. But that sounds boring, so they invented a story.

    Quite enjoyable.

... really didn't need to spend too much time on the 'make their car their home' part though, seeing as it has been done a fair few times before. Some of the scenery in the last fifteen minutes was breathtaking - Africa is a truly beautiful country.

Looks like Hammond made the right choice with his car though. Fact.

    Oh and that traffic jam!

    : )

Yeah I really don't get why you wouldn't pick an impreza estate for that kind of trip with those kind of parameters on cars. It's the only intelligent choice.

I think it's called the 'tv effect'.

Missed the first 25 minutes. How did Clarkson justify the BMW?

    @Bremenacht POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Only just started watching but that Imprezza for 1500 is pretty nifty, even if it is the worst shape.

Edit* Would love that Volvo though.

Africa is a continent, rather than a country - some of those are total shit-holes.

    Sub-sahara is nice though.

Best episode/special in years IMO. Didn't feel forced, beautiful scenery and the banter was hilarious.

Briliant episode last night i thought.

And that part when jezza seen the hole in his passenger side door genuinely had me laughing.

Cant wait for next weeks episode.
